Description
Please click to full-view.~AzKailani wrote to me the other day, asking if I could give some tips on how to draw, particularly on how I do chibi-style. I've always believed that my style is not really anything special (as the characters look more like I've drawn them as kids than actual chibi), but I told her that I'd try to show her how I do it anyway.
Well... my camera work while I was drawing this pic was less than remarkable... I didn't notice that the digital camera's resolution had been set way, waaaaay low when I started taking pictures. Gah, so much for that idea (I had been too lazy to scan after each and every step). Oh, well. Maybe I could try to make the pictures clearer someday. For now, I hope everyone could still see what I was doing, at least.
For a nice "how to" on the more common "chibification" process, try this: [link ]
You can also look into this if you're curious on how I draw with guidelines.
(Edit) Since a lot of people were asking, I used the following pencils for this drawing:
- A Staedtler karat aquarell colored pencil for the blue lines.
- A sharpened Staedtler HB pencil for the black lines.
But really, any light blue colored pencil, or typical lead pencil, will probably do.

Well... there's really not much to teach. Just practice, look at some references, practice what's given there, and practice again, incorporating everything you've learned so far.
I still have much to learn myself.

This is a awesome tutorial
But I wanted to ask you, why do you draw with a blue pencil? A lot of people do that, but I still don't really understand why xD

It's not an absolute requirement (I don't use it anymore, actually), but if drawn lightly, the lines drawn with a blue pencil (red also works...) would hardly show after scanning (in B&W) than if you used a black one. Aside from which, it's a lot less confusing to differentiate your guides and final lines if you use different colors for each.
Using a colored pencil is very useful for those who'd like to just simply clean their lines after transferring to the computer. For those who re-trace their lines using a digital editing tool, though, there's hardly any need to do this.

Hey,
This is a good tutorial except once I got to the point of drawing in the face... I was stuck... It doesnt say anything about how to actually draw particular eyes or where eye brows should be positioned...

Staedtler karat aquarell colored pencil for the blue lines (which could be bought at National Book Store), and a typical sharpened Staedtler HB pencil for inking.

What is that blue colored pencil? is that just a regular blue colored pencil? or something

I used a Staedler, but it shouldn't really be any different from any regular blue colored pencil... I think.
