If you guys have been wondering what's been taking me so long to post....It cause of this series!I just finished it 2 weeks ago and I FREAKING LOVED IT!
This SERIOUSLY is one of my fav manga besides "MY HOLY TRINITY" (Jojo,Berserk and HxH).It's Top 5 status!
SERIOUSLY ,I can't thank you enough for introducing this AWESOME series to me!
Lemme give ya a brief summary of the plot and characters(or at least the ones that stood out to me)
To make it short and sweet "Gantz" is a black ball that transports the dead into a purgatory-like room that has no exits.
It then sends you on a "mission" to hunt aliens(they start off weak but TRUST ME,the things that the team fights later are INSANE!).Gantz then supply's you with a super suit and an array of weapons(And BELIEVE ME,the weapons later on are just as insane as the later aliens!). It then teleports you to a designated area(You also have a time limit and there are restrictions on how far you can go).Once you've completed the mission Gantz Scores you on how you did (and he's a HARSH grader). If ya get 100 points it gives you 3 options,
1.Have your memory wiped and be free
2. Get weapon upgrades
3.Revive someone who's died in the game.
Until you get 100 pts you have to keep fighting aliens.
As for characters...
Kei Kurono: (guy in the center) :The protagonist.This guy went from the most unlikable character in the show to one of my fav characters in manga! He is the TRUE underdog.If you ask me he's probably the most REALISTIC character in the show. He acts like how any other kid who had power would(he abuses the HELL outta them) not to say he's a villain, he just uses them for situations that he "should" do himself. He just so over the top!All his battles are INSANE! He truly went from a complete loser to a complete and UTTER BADASS!
Masaru Kato: (guy with the slicked back hair): The deuteragonist. One way to sum up Kato is that he's Jonathan Joestar without the BULGING BICEPS. He's goes above and beyond to help the innocent and he a very noble guy. I like kato so much because even though he's scared $HITLESS, he'll put his feelings aside to be the hero.It's because of him that Kurono was able to be the bad ass that he is now. Kato's just one of those guys that you can't hate.
Joichiro Nishi: (baby blue jacket on the left): I be really quick with this. The biggest 14 year old @$$hole EVER!
Izumi Shion: (long haired guy with the sword on top) Forget Nishi. Izumi is "KING @$$HOLE" Izumi takes the word PSYCHOTIC to new heights!(not gonna lie though,he's cool as hell)
Daizemon Kaze: (big guy with the beard) A.K.A "Muscle Rider". Kaze is LITERALLY a Tekken character in a Gantz suit. He gets some of the most extreme fights. He kicks SERIOUS ass with his signature move the "Back Attack"! His goals to fight the strongest man in Tokyo.
Hiroto Sakurai: (The carrot top) A.K.A "Cherry" Tetsuo from Akira. I'll leave it at that.....
Reika Shimohira: (The girl with next to Kurono) A popular Idol who gets dragged into this mess and is "ONE" of Kurono's love interests.
To wrap this up, If yer 18 and UP ,like over the top stuff like stuff like Battle Royale,with the aliens of MIB, gore of Berserk ,BIZARRE-ness of JOJO and don't mind EXTREME violence and fan-service then I recommend this manga!

I LOVED Gantz but I for one didn't like how Oku had so many good subplots that he scrapped.
Like The fact that Izumi died WAY too early in the game even though he was one of the stronger players. And besides Nishi, he had the most intel about Gantz itself. There's also the fact that both Nishi and Hikawa knew him prior to the series and they had not one flashback about it. I mean at LEAST wait to kill him off in Osaka. That mission was literally MADE for him.
And I didn't like how Hikawa and Chiaki along with the whole vampire sub plot was snuffed out of the story. I mean ya find out Kurono's brother Akira is a vampire only for him to get killed and forgotten in a couple of chapters. Then he starts giving Hikawa and Chiaki some screen time in Osaka only for them to be irrelevant the rest of the series. I mean instead of wasting 20 something straight chapters of Tae screaming "KEIIIIIII~CHAAAAAAN" through out the final arc, ya could of have 4 or 5 of them on them and what they were doing during Catastrophe(since they were still technically players in the game at the time.)
And I agree with you about the epilogue. I feel like either Young Jump told him to hurry it up or he simply lost interest after a while. Regardless I wanted to see what happen to Kurono,Kato and Kaze at the end. And I wonder If Gantz revived EVERYONE in it's memory or just the Catastrophe team?

there's so much wasted potential with the weapons also. the badass mecha suit guy from osaka died offscreen and said suit never gets used again. kurono only used that motorcycle once for some reason. nishi and izumi are the only ones smart enough to use the invisibility option on a regular basis. there seems to be no time limit and none of the aliens notice, so turning invisible really could of saved a few people. a flashback arc with nishi and izumi was definitely in order. would of been nice to see their connection. it also would of been nice if oku explained where the vampires came from in the first place and more of their motives. hikawa and chiaki got bored killing humans so they could of been great allies to the gantz team. since oku is obviously a sadistc it's doubtful he would have everyone be revived let alone the catastrophe team. some of their deaths felt so pointless. when kato was revived, it was revealed everyone killed during gantz has to relive their deaths eternally. pretty sad looking back on it.

I've heard alot of great things about this series Gantz and i've been meaning to start reading it as soon as I catch up on Berserk, JJBA, Gamaran and others. How long did it take you to finish the series?

4 DAYS, a week and a half tops(but that's just me)
Gantz isn't really dialog heavy.
It's an AWESOME manga!
but there are certain things I wish Oku went in depth with BEFORE it ended (coughIZUMIcoughHOST-Samuraicough!)
Regardless it's probably one of the most intense series I've read in a while.

Josuke seems like a real cool, badass, and likable character but idk dude Jotaro is just badass to me right now.

Yo, next arc's villain...Yoshikage Kira.....WHOO! Yer in for a ride! His goal is really odd for an anime/manga villain,But if you see how far he goes to attain it.... it's fuck'n INSANE! He's sinister as all hell!

Yeah, Josuke and Okuyasu are pretty much the JOJO version of them.
The whole time I was reading P4, I imagined Josuke with Yusuke's voice and Okuyasu with Kuwabara's voice.

The reason as to why Jotaro is my favorite Joestar is well, because to me he's not like the usual shonen mains. He's calm, not rash, intellegent. I dont really see that in many shonen battle esk mangas or anime. Oh and the cool design haha but you know what i''m trying to say dude?

Dude i just finished reading the first 10 chapters of Gantz. The first thing that came to mind was the one shot story that was done in Bakuman. About the kid and the deadly magic classroom or something, idk it's been a while.
But i like it so far. It's really smooth, smart, and intense. I'm def. going to finish it.

If so,I GUARANTEE you'll love characters like Giorno and Weather Report.
Giorno for the most part is a stoic,calm yet suave and Weather's a stoic,chill and quiet
and they are both have insanely OP stands too! And Pucci'll probably be your fav villain. He's probably the most serious of the 6. He doesn't even have the infamous JOJO villain quirk too him.
I guess I like Josuke because he's the perfect mix of cool,funny,serious and cunning. Another reason being that,out of the 8 jojo's I act the most like him. I usually like the whole yanki delinquent character type in anime and manga, ex: Knuckle,Yusuke and Kuwabara,Mondo Oowada,Taison Maeda and a bunch of other characters with Pompadours.
And yeah, after part 3, stands are named after popular music refs. Kira's actual stand is named "Killer Queen".
"AOBTD" is one of KQ's attacks, along with "Sheer Heart Attack"(ALL Queen songs). Crazy Diamonds named after the Pink Floyd song. Their other refs like,Man in the mirror,Metallica,Foo Fighters,Kiss,RHCP,Love Train and TONS MORE! But like you saw with J.Geil A.K.A. "Centerfold" ,there will be name changes in the anime to avoid copyright issues.
Even though Gantz doesn't really have a plot,it's still a fun action series with relatable characters that go through real-life problems. Trust me you haven't even met Izumi or Kaze yet. When they're in the game...
SHIT GETS REAL! My fav arcs would have to be the Dinosaur,Oni and Osaka arc. TRUST ME things get WAY more intense later. Besides the 2 reasons I mentioned earlier,My one major gripe with GANTZ is the ending not having a proper epilogue. You'll see what I mean when you get to it. All that aside it's still one of my fav manga.

Yeah basically. I've seen Giorno in All Star Battle and he seems like the type of character i would be into. But I basically like Jotaro because he's not like common nowaday shonen main character, where they are dimwitted and stuff.
Josuke seem's like the type of character I would get into also because I really like Knuckle and Kuwabara. Kuwabara is probably my 2nd or 3rd fave after Yusuke and Shinsui. Their personalities and attitudes stand out in the series'.
It's cool how the names of stands and attacks are named after popular 70's 80's music, but it kinda sucks that they have to be changed.
I just got finished with the dinosaur arc. Izumi dude. He's crazy af. I think it was like almost 400 people that he massacured just to get into gantz room. I can kind of understand where he's coming from thou. The outside world wouldn't be the same after living through all those missions and horrors.
I've been meaning to check out Fist of the North Style for a while. It seems like i would get into it.

This is a fantastic tribute to the series and I totally dig the colors you've employed. The purple goes well with the black suits and it gives a very intense feel to the piece! Nice work

Jojo has been awesome, and there's only been one episode. I got my friend hooked on the series too, so we're watching parts 1 and 2 in between part 3 episode releases. Jojo is that awesome.
Muscle Rider was so cool, the mangaka introduced his very own love interest in the story... simply to make him more badass. That's just too epic!
(Seriously though, that chick came out of nowhere and afterwards Muscle Rider was even more awesome. Maybe the more things he has to protect, the more boss he becomes? Gantz logic = win.)
