HMS Triumphantflagship , serving as command ship for airborne battlegroups
the Triumphant class is equipped with a considerable ammount of heavy firepower and armored to withstand the onslaught of the most fierce imperial attackers
her 12 long range guns , mounted in pairs on 6 turrets around her hull, are powerful enough to punch a hole clean through an imperial cruiser
the durability of the ship is remarkable , the vaulted structure braces the hull at regular spacing throughout the ship, and airtight doors seal the compartments during combat, as such the ship will continue to function even with breaches in all outer compartments and loss of lifting engines
in extreme cases the ship will remain in the combat area drawing fire as her accompanying fleet retreats , the internal sections are fitted with emergancy escape tunnels running vertically through the ship, enabling the escape pods to be ejected straight down at high speed
equipped with twin docking ports for her destroyer escorts and surplus fuel enough to keep them running the Triumphant brings her own fleet with her wherever she ventures
the Triumphant is a flagship, her CIC is much more advanced than those on standard ships of the line, with much more advanced communications suites and enhanced sensor array's
although she lacks the direct lifting thrusters of smaller ships, her massive size enables her to remain airborne on her gas tanks alone , thus it is possible for this might flagship to transfer her own fuel reserves to her accompanying fleet
although the Triumphant lacks an air wing, she does carry a large compliment of transport helicopters for recovery of paratrooper units and mecha , as well as additional attack gunships

(you may notice this design bears many similarity's to the battle star galactica , this is a tribute to an amazing tv series - i will however point out that the ship is NOT a space going vessel, and shares none of the technology that comes from the BSG universe ,instead the technology is all of my own design, and fits inside a similar hull shape)

thanks this is just a WIP, i'm currently adding more to it,
i'm drawing the Triumphant's late arrival to the major opening battle of the transition Wars
it show's the mighty battleship arriving but sadly too late, finding only a handful of surving ships amongst a mass of debris , the still burning hulks hanging still in the air

i hope to have it finished in the next few day's then i'll start on some cross section drawings of the triumphant
this picture will show here early life as the royal navy's last stand agasint imperial onslaught , she'll survive , having an active service life of over 96 years , a relic of a violent past, savior of a dying nation and hope for a brighter future

well she is covered in point defence guns of considerable firepower, the guns you can see around the base structure are her main armament , although as you pointed out she has less firepower on the topside, she does have one of the highest max altitude's of airships around, she uses this to pray on the ships below

Unless the enemy went Tom Clancy's End War on you and just put Kinetic Energy WMD's on a satellite and had it attack from above...

ah now you've just realised its flaw, there are indeed kinetic strike weapons in orbit, howvwer they are a bit of a relic from a past war which have since fallen into disrepair, however the faction capable of reaching them and bringing them online would gain a massive advantage
this ship belongs to a fictional world i'm working on, this ship is a bit of a relic of the great war, older than the empire itself (the Empire of the Holy consortium is the land grabbing highly religious force which has occupied nearly all of the globe)
the Triumphant's heavy armor and her focus on traditional bouyancy tanks rather than powered lifting engines enabled her to survive the cataclism which disabled and destroyed over half the airborne military forces worldwide, as a result she is one of very few surviving dreadnought's

Cool, so I'm assuming at some point or another that the people on this alt earth lost space flight abilities?
Sounds similar to Corinth which I've been doing (I guess its impossible to have a 100% never been thought of story

pretty much, there was a massive space based effort , colony ships where constructed, of the three that where completed, two had departed for their destination, the third was due to launch, but the thermocatalitic weapons were fired before it could depart, seeding the atmosphere with gas fuel, then detonating , causing massive firestorms in the atmosphere burning fed by the oxygen rich atmosphere
( this alt earth has some minor differences, smaller landmasses and higher oxygen content the most significant)
these weapons are the successors to nukes, they kill fewer people, ( as the seeding is detected but not preventable , meaning there are hours to get to shelters) but they cause massive devastation, and ground most airships as they choke the engines and combust the oxygen in the atmosphere, reducing the bouyancy effect
this is where the third colony ship comes in, its equipped with modular housing, hospitals, and power plants, as well as terraforming gear capable of reseeding the atmosphere with oxygen, so its launch is cancelled and its gear is sent down to earth
while the major world powers clean up and repair, the fledgeling empire follows up on its attack, taking control of territory, but in the ensuing war, much of mans technology is lostto many, although the surving commonwealth military retains knowledge they are safe in a heavily fortified australia
but the highly religious empire has little understanding of tech and seeks to reduce its citizens knowleddge keeping them dumb , so they are in a new dark age

thanks , she's the big hitter for the commonwealth navy in my fiction world , stable enough to launch ground teams from high altitude, and durable enough to do so while taking heavy fire
her design makes her so durable she escapes the initial bombardment of the world by thermocatalitic weaponary which takes out over half the airbourne naval forces worldwide
as one of the surviving ships, the triumphant and her fleet are pressed into service to assist in the rebuilding of major worldwide settlements, employing her transport recovary helicopters and mecha ground teams to search out and recover survivors , saving the lives of many hundreds of civilian's proves a major propaganda tool, increasing the recruitment rates significantly
however her life as a vessel of peace is short lived , as a follow up to their world wide attack a mysterious organisation strike again, building up their forces by stealing ships from mothball facilities in the US they launch a large scale attack on the heavily damaged fleets of the major world powers , swiftly striking the USA from within its own borders and bringing the USSR to its knees , it then turns on Europe , smashing a squabbling union
the triumphant is of course a rally point for the surviving forces of the british navy, heading swiftly to the fight, the Triumphant rides again
