well i took inspiration from steampunk and decided to modernise, the fiction world i have has a peak, then it all goes downhill, with relics so tech like this is rare and in disrepair

You're into steampunk. Look up some steampunk airships on Google images and you can get some crazy inspiration.

yeah i been few pages theres some really cool stuff, some of the best is made from lego, which i really like, plus i got into some groups here on da tht dedicate to the steampunk theme

Steampunk you can get extremely creative with. There's also things like dieselpunk (all giant engines and loud roaring machines from in a 30's-40's setting)and retro futurism that's really cool to get into. If I did a few sketchings, would you be willing to check them out? I do pencil-paper drawing, not any kinds of digital or templates.

chaos-sandwhich In reply to SergeantSki [2012-12-08 04:49:29 +0000 UTC]

yeah i quite like diesel punk, me and a freind have been doing what we like to call jet punk, but thats not really a thing, its just a bit more advnaced version of diesel

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SergeantSki In reply to chaos-sandwhich [2012-12-08 06:43:20 +0000 UTC]

Oooooohhhhh. So it'd be like the latter end of the 40s when jet tech was developing. Gotchya. Pretty BA if yo ask me. It could easily develop into a class all it's own.

chaos-sandwhich In reply to SergeantSki [2012-12-08 14:18:37 +0000 UTC]

well i hope so, i personally love early jet technology, i find it blends well with diesel too, as it seems plausable for both technologies to run side by side

SergeantSki In reply to chaos-sandwhich [2012-12-08 21:31:26 +0000 UTC]

Oh definitely. That age also kinda mixed with each other in reality. For a short period the existed simultaneously in the late 40's, so naturally they complement each other.

chaos-sandwhich In reply to SergeantSki [2012-12-08 22:09:26 +0000 UTC]

indeed, there is also a sort of middle ground between cyber punk and diesel which i like , its kind of seen in games like C and C red alert , and the fallout series have diversion history

not quite as retro as steampunk, but i do like the way that fallout has this alternate version of history which kind of extends from the 60's but heavily uses micro fusion and nuclear power,

if i had to give it a name i would call it nuclearpunk, but that sounds wierd

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SergeantSki In reply to chaos-sandwhich [2012-12-08 22:17:22 +0000 UTC]

I love any kind of alternate reality genre in general. It's always fun to see reality as it is now, and how things could be. There's also a little known genre that is set in the 50's called atomic punk. The reason I say little-known is because I can never find anything that is labeled under being in that denre- its always "a steampunk-cyberpunk mix, or a jetpunk whatever" I'd like to get that going. You wouldn't be creeped out if I watched you (As I've said in many-a-posts they really need to change that), would you?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chaos-sandwhich In reply to SergeantSki [2012-12-08 22:51:10 +0000 UTC]

no problem

and i like the sound of atomic punk, now that i think about it a lot of the fallout universe falls into that, they have fusion powered electric cars( because the resources like oil ran out) fusion cells power almost anything, and lots of the food and drink are radioactive, like Nuka cola whcih had radioactive isotopes in it , specially quantum , that glows in the dark its so full of it

cool. thx. Soon as I get a new sketchbook {or find the one someone jacked on Thursday. Still seething) I'll get to work on some concepts. You think I should go with a retro-futuristic deco, or a cyberpunk-contemporary futuristic design?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chaos-sandwhich In reply to SergeantSki [2012-12-08 23:18:06 +0000 UTC]

that sucks , i hate it when i loose my pens and sketchbooks /or it gets s stollen , admitedly i loose them more than somebody takes them , but thats my fault for talking them everywhere

i would say retro futuristic is maybe a bit more unique, as cyberpunk has a big following already, maybe go down your own path

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SergeantSki In reply to chaos-sandwhich [2012-12-08 23:27:28 +0000 UTC]

I was hoping you'd say the 50's deco. Yay. But yah, I'm still ruffled about the disappearance of the sketchbook that has all the art I've ever made in it. The reason I brought it to school was to give it to my friend so she could take it to her place to scan it so I could post my crap on DeviantArt. Irony is like God's demented little cousin. Have you noticed that?

chaos-sandwhich In reply to SergeantSki [2012-12-08 23:43:25 +0000 UTC]

indeed, murphys law
best of luck in finding it , though in my experience its unlikely to turn up

and yeah i hope the art goes well, i have some inking to do myself, theres some stuff to correct on this [link]

and after that i'm gonna try to design a super heated steam turbine drive based of a nuclear reactor

for the moment i am researching stuff, but i'm always happy to recieve creative ideas,

i often visit new scientist, their website has a lot of posts on upcomming tech, its where i got the idea to use betavoltaic batteries onbord my airships [link]
and this looks cool [link]

Throw some nanomaterial sails on there. Use those to power your drive system. Or the whole ship.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chaos-sandwhich In reply to SergeantSki [2012-12-09 00:21:22 +0000 UTC]

hmm, perhaps, i am unsure about over doing the nanno stuff though, i could use it on a prototype vessel perhaps , as that would get around it being so advanced

chaos-sandwhich In reply to SergeantSki [2012-12-09 02:37:17 +0000 UTC]

some of the best stuff is drawn on notepaper, i find i am more free with ideas, as i'm not too worried about the quality

thanks

hope you keep at it, i find its just good to keep drawing, even if i don't produce anything great its good for the practice

i still can't do faces, and people that well , but i'm getting better

I can do up close portraits, kinda, but not figures, like in a scene. Also things viewed at odd angles are exceedingly difficult for me. Like an upward and like 30 degrees to the right would be like ridiculously hard to do.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chaos-sandwhich In reply to SergeantSki [2012-12-09 07:39:02 +0000 UTC]

yeah, angle throw in a lot of problems for me too, not so much with tech, but people i do from pretty much one angle

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SergeantSki In reply to chaos-sandwhich [2012-12-09 07:44:17 +0000 UTC]

for me it's geometrics. Like a ship I cant do at an angle, or a plane. Especially steep angles, or depth angles. Ya know?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chaos-sandwhich In reply to SergeantSki [2012-12-09 07:55:15 +0000 UTC]

kind of, i had more trouble in the past, but i am quite intuitive with angles, i've always been naturally good at drawing, and it helps that i have been taught also

SergeantSki In reply to chaos-sandwhich [2012-12-09 08:03:24 +0000 UTC]

Same. I'm artistically inclined. There just always those things that get yah. Sometimes its gettin an eye when the subject's head is turned at an angle.

chaos-sandwhich In reply to SergeantSki [2012-12-09 08:10:38 +0000 UTC]

that i find very hard, i tend to use rather stylised techniques to get around it, that way i don't have to be as spot on, but its still hard

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SergeantSki In reply to chaos-sandwhich [2012-12-09 08:17:16 +0000 UTC]

Stylize? How so? Like making hair fall over that side so you can't see it or something?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chaos-sandwhich In reply to SergeantSki [2012-12-09 08:48:12 +0000 UTC]

well its more sort of making the face less realistic, by cheating adding far fewer details , kind of getting a cartoon ish look, there are many different styles of course, some have the bare minimum to look like a face, others are full of detail, i can manage somehwere inbetween

SergeantSki In reply to chaos-sandwhich [2012-12-09 09:30:13 +0000 UTC]

well the question is can these machines really work? I put engineering into everything I design, one thing I deplore of steampunk is it's complete unfeasibility and lack of real engineering

ah well the stuff i'm working on has a basis in true physics,

using very advanced materials to offset weight
( ever heard of aero gel ), plus there is additional lighter than air gas contained within the tubular struts , anything to offset a little extra weight , additionally only the crew compartments are filled with breathable atmosphere , access ways are filled with helium

as well as a more advanced version of gas ballons, the hydrogen tanks presure is precisely controlled allowing for maxium lift efficiency , of course its a solid shell airship, so its going to need a little bit more than balloons

as such there are a variety of powered systems used, ranging from vectored jet turbines to electric fan's and turbo props . turbo props being the preferred for aircraft carriers , and jet turbines used on capital combat vessels

by my reckoning most smaller vessels will be short range, lacking fuel stores for long range, but the bigger ships should be self sustaining by use of the counter rotstion ring reaction recouperator
( of course i have taken a little bit of sci fi liberty with it, but its not madness)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PaxAeternum In reply to chaos-sandwhich [2012-08-22 18:04:34 +0000 UTC]

I wonder about the hydrogen pressure system. Remember, the more you compress a gas, the more dense and heavier it becomes. (I. E. why a tank full of helium at 2000PSI does not float, but all the balloons it can inflate at atmospheric pressure an lift said tank).

If you are talking solid tanks, the lightest thing to put in them would be a vacuum.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chaos-sandwhich In reply to PaxAeternum [2012-08-22 18:10:54 +0000 UTC]

ah i think i phrased it badly before , the design is indeed vacuum based , not a true vacuum of course but as near as possible

the design includes many individual ceramic pressure chambers, with some fancy engineering , the chamber becomes more structurally stable the lower the pressure inside there are two layers the spherical cambers themselves with the vacuum and the surrounding envelope which is filled with hydrogen/helium ( helium as standard but hydrogen is an acceptable risk in certain situations)
