Description
"During those days, the harsh sunlight burnt anything foolish enough to challenge it. It took many years, but a powerful beast found refuge in the canyons, and gathered enough strength to blanket the world in darkness, allowing us to explore the surface. Once it gained enough power, the creature fought the light, and terrible screeches rang through the canyons and deserts during its struggles. Both sides tired of the fighting and eventually agreed that they should rule the world, half of it at a time. For shadows such as myself, legends tell us not of sunlight being brought to the world, but of creatures and events that destroyed its strength and brought darkness to it."

The girl paused for a moment, thinking. "Of course, that's just a story with no basis in fact. Despite all the magic we have, a struggle on that level of power doesn't make sense, as the magic required would almost certainly annihilate the world. Still, if worlds burnt by endless light or drowned in eternal darkness exist, I wonder if there'd even be life on them. It seems that there's always a balance necessary for life to emerge and for magic to be used by creatures living somewhere. There always exist creatures both to upset the balance, and try to reclaim it, and that's what keeps everything in motion."
