I have to compile a portfolio to apply for a special-topics class, to include character designs. I figure I might as well upload it here too, in case anyone was particularly curious as to what the back of Drake's head looked like. XDDrake Kingson. Local jock and star pitcher of the school's baseball team, he's rarely seen without one or two of his fellow sports buddies. He's the son of a high-ranking police officer and fully intends to follow in his father's footsteps. Because of that, he's always cleanly dressed, and always wears a garrison belt (properly aligned to pants and shirt seams). He likes to think of himself as a model citizen, which contributes to a slight air of superiority.
((Hm, how many times have I described Drake's character now? Seems like a lot. I'm like some sort of broken record here.))

Yeah, he's got a small set of horns, though they aren't too prominent, so they're really easy to miss. I have no earthly clue what sort of animal he is, though I suppose he's got some sort of ram or buffalo blood in him somewhere. :3 I don't think any of my furry characters have easily-definable species, except for my bat Axel.

I like the profile shot. His expression looks really cute there, IMO. The back 3/4 view is neat too, considering I never really think about drawing characters from that angle.

hes so cool, I need to work on perspectives myself but this is really good all the diffrent angles and the coloring too

The trick is to draw horizontal lines marking out key points of the character (bottom of chin, waist/belt, kneecap, top of hair, eyeline, nose, etc). I used lines like those to draw him, though they aren't marked in the final pic. ^^ But really, it helps a lot to keep the chara consistent throughout.

Yup, that's how it's supposed to look on a model sheet. Though admittedly, it still kinda' bugs me.

Haha, naah, Drake sounds like a really cool character. x3 I liked the detail about the belt - that's a nice touch.

cool beans! what special-topics class are you trying to get into?
I really enjoy his design, really. It's more simple than most styles, but that's the charm of it, and it conveys a lot about the character ^^! Drake's so cool, even if he is an egotistical, straight-belted jock!

Yeah, the only announcement was one tiny blurb on the SCAD news page back in the summer, right after Siggraph. I dunno if he'll be back again. I guess it depends on how the winter quarter goes.
