Set SubD level on max (3), apply HD morphs (here is Victoria 8 HD), also you have to place lights, lightning is important part (here is Scene Only) and nice textures (e.x. from Godin G8 characters). Then do some tweaks with tone mapping in Render settings (e.x. here I turned off the Burn Higlights and f/stop set to 64). Rendering time set to 21600 (6 hours). And postwork if needed.
