The Black and White results are done not internally but externally in Photoshop ?

Hmm could you make a Internal version for comparison just put Saturation to 0 in the Tone Mapping ?
It should be overall faster at Rendering then of course as well.

Yes, I know about it. I make color render too... So if I decided to make simple BW version I would use the internal BW rendering with saturation at 0
