Description
Here's a step by step of a piece done for my homie for his b-day, as commissioned by his father. He's a beast of a boxer, and since it's my favorite sport, I had to try my hand at it. He's also getting his masters in Architecture, so stop by his page and give him some feedback!
I had limited facial ref, so it couldn't be super dynamic, and that's not what was called for anyway, so here's him post destruction!
Step1- Just a simple layout, planning of the composition. This was tough because I wanted to go more dynamic, but I couldn't due to lack of ref. I couldn't ask him for pics, because that would ruin the suprise!
Step2- I start the rendering. I made his left shoulder look realy wonky, here so I end up changing that later.
Step3- I scan to see how it suits me and I decide that I'll go back to the drawing and add the black background with a 6b pencil.
Step4- The final! With the background black, it gives the characters more impact.
11x14 vellum
.5 Mechanical
2b leadholder
6b wooden pencil
Thats the best setup I've used ever. Tho, I'm not a fan of vellum anymore. It's cool, but 111lb+ paper is my fav, thick ass paper is better than that board, it takes the graphite better and easier.
