My favorite part about this piece is the aura: the stylized black frills. This is reminiscent of the final battles in Kingdom Hearts 2 with Xemnas. Very interesting connection.

I completely love this image although there is a problem here and it is the fact that sephiroth's sword is on his right hand. In that "super old piece" you mention you can see that he has his sword on his left hand because that is how sephiroth uses Masamune. I don't want to look like a super fanboy... but I am. Still, a job well done!
