Description I'm not a difficult man to figure out. One look at my fan art folder and it's apparent I'm an avid Nintendo fan boy. I was eager and curious enough to give Nintendo Labo a go when it launched back in April. Not gonna lie, I enjoyed it even more than I thought I would! I picked up the Variety Kit and had a wonderful time constructing each of the unique Toy-con's, and learned a lot about the potential of the Nintendo Switch hardware. And I had a lovely teacher to assist me!

This is Lerna Lotte , head programmer at the Labo research facility found in the Discover section of the game. Alongside her partners Gerry Riggs and Plaise Allatyme, these three teach you the ins-and-outs of Toy-con's, explaining how they work, different ways you can customize them, and other ways to have fun with your new cardboard creations! It's all part of the "edutainment" portion of the Nintendo Labo software, to be sure, but I found these characters very charming, and I was falling in love with Lerna's spiels of technological know-how and love of science. It didn't take long for me to want to see her in a predicament like this...

Needless to say, I found myself wondering what it would take to create a "tickling machine". It's actually... much easier than you might expect!!

The Toy-con RC Car included in the Variety Kit not only uses the controller vibrations to move, it can also utilize the Joy-con (R)'s IR (infrared) camera to see whatever's directly in front of it. See the white shiny stickers directly underneath Lerna's feet in both the main image as well as the IR camera view? IR is very good at detecting reflected light, hence the way they're "glowing" in the upper-right corner there. That's how this magic can actually happen: the Toy-con RC Car has an automatic mode! Provided it can see the IR stickers in front of it, it will go to it automatically, be it through an obstacle course or a racetrack made out of reflective tape. But the Toy-con only works best on a flat surface. At an angle, it can only really wiggle back and forth... Hmmm~ Makes sense how this works now, right? The IR camera sees the stickers under Lerna's feet and tries to approach, but it can never truly advance because it's too weighed down by its own controllers. All it can do now is wiggle around, tickling poor Lerna's soles with two very tickly feathers until the batteries peter out! Or someone finds that Switch!! (psssst, it's probably in the box...)

Did you get all that? If so, then you probably realized that, yes, this Toy-con Tickling Machine definitely totally absolutely works!! Who says I don't put any thought into my art!? If anything I overthink this stuff all the time!! I even tried to utilize as many actual Labo pieces as possible when putting this together-- bonus points to anyone who recognizes that big box her feet are on top of! But I'll admit the cardboard handcuffs were something of a creative liberty~ I had a blast drawing this, making this piece my first completed one of the year. I hope the end result is worth it!!

Really? I think "Miler" works just fine. Your username is kind of a mouthful. But you said "please", so you at least have some grasp of manners. Although telling someone to kill themselves kinda seems like a step backwards.

Let me be frank, MonkeyBoy32904 , which absolutely doesn't sound like a hacker name: I don't care one way or the other what you think about my art. It is clearly not meant for you. And in time, you'll learn there are a lot of things on the internet that you don't have to care about.

My suggestion: Go about your business, and find something to be happy about.

Who said anything about being paranoid? I literally just said I don't care one way or the other what you think of my art. Which, it is still art, like it or not. But you've gone out of your way to care about it. I'm not even sure how you found this piece. Regardless, it's mine to share, and I will continue to do so.

ChaztheWeasel In reply to MonkeyBoy32904 [2018-10-09 02:03:04 +0000 UTC]

That's where your argument falls apart. You never even made fun of my art. You literally came to me, a complete stranger, called me out for having a "disgusting fetish" and immediately prompted me to kill myself. All you've managed to do here is make yourself look like a terrible childish person.

I'm comfortable with myself as a person and as an artist, and I never go out of my way to talk down to others to feel better about myself. I'm proud of my art, and I'm grateful to have many good friends who encourage me every day to continue doing what I love. I'm going to keep drawing, and I'm not going to stop sharing my work.

Get better, Miler. Get help.

Your wants? Your wants are totally null when I never asked you to stick around. What are you trying to accomplish by continually responding to me? Your very first interaction with me was to disrespect me by "conveniently reminding me" that I could kill myself. Why do you feel like you deserve any respect from me, when you've done nothing but act like a belligerent child?

Either clean up your act, or shut your mouth.

Hahaha amazing what you can do with cardboxes these days , remember how we used to cut and paste stuff to make armours and castle and helmeets and spaaaaace ships with it and now this , aaah isen't the future great XD Awsomely done , i've only seen comercials and other stuff arround the net from it but this one is the best XD

Sutch detailing in the work plus as you say you tought of a way that it can actually work is just perfect. I find it funny how are hands are , it's like she's clapping her hands for you being so inventive and that what you created works as intended XD It looks cute and fun, sutch a lovely piece, well done.

Cardboard's come a very long way from making crowns in fast food restaurants and constructing imaginary time machines. It's surprisingly versatile these days! Technology is always improving!

YES, that's exactly what I was going for with this one! She's absolutely overjoyed that the Toy-con works at all, she's clapping over the ingenuity and inventiveness that went into it! Unfortunately, it looks like it might almost be TOO effective for her to handle! Clap harder, Lerna!!

Glad I could provide a fun example of Labo's true potential Thanks for commenting!
