While pulling an all-nighter for my round entry, I took a break and decided to draw this. I kinda followed a reference...somewhat. Regardless, Shard has become one of my favorite characters in the Archie Sonic series. He's so cool and awesome! I jut realized I didn't comment on this (most likely because of the gross sobbing I gave in to), so here it goes!
First, I love the pose; pointing to his core, maybe wishing it was beating heart instead? I mean, he does just want to be accepted, despite the history his physical form has.
I like the idea of it being a setting sun; that's also my best point for critiquing, though. I love your shading style, specifically for the idea of the setting sun. The contrast is excellent all around. The losing point for me is the sky itself. You could easily morph it to your benefit, and have the setting sun tones be more warm purple that fades to blue, instead of oranges/reds/pinks fading into the night sky. Something a bit darker, but retaining that cool (such as a warmer purple), would probably help the mood quite a bit, or at least give the background an extra level of depth.
Shard really is a great character. He's part of what's got me back to reading the main storyline.

The whole process for this was a mess, really. The original color scheme I used made it look like the sun was rising; which could have worked, I guess. I really did like the idea of the day ending more. I sky was where I got really lazy. I literally slapped a gradient on and left it alone for the most part. If I get the chance, I would love to redo this with more detail. Thanks for the critique.
I get nervous that Shard might be cast aside since he may be too much like Sonic. I can't really put my finger on it, but there is something that separates the two... Whatever it is, I think it's why I like Shard more than Sonic.

If the gradient were a little stronger, even, that would help a ton, actually! I saw a bit there, but it really doesn't hit you. I think the sun setting hits the mood you're going for right on the head: we associate the setting sun with the end, and the end can be a sad idea. If this were a more cheerful picture, the rising sun would be great. Instead, it's more of a silent, private, and relatively neutral moment. If that makes any sense, haha.
One of my friends and I were jabbering about that, actually. I see him as having a bit of that old-school Sonic attitude and personality; the catch is, he has none of the social skills to deal with people not liking him. He's got a lot of naivety, still, which is refreshing to me (and why I loved him, Silver and Larry on a team together). Honestly, if they had Sonic wangst for a bit longer (behind the scenes, moreso, as opposed to in front of Tails and Amy), Shard could have been an excellent foil... but now I'm rambling, so I'll shut up, haha. (And oh my Ra, don't even get me STARTED about how they mentioned the "One Bad Day" Joker/Batman thing and did nothing. I actually rage quit when I got there, haha)

Speed painting, from what I've gathered, is just throwing out all sense of planning to see what you get in the end. Then again, I've seen much better speed paintings... I don't know. Haha.

I always had a bad habit of changing my icons frequently. I'm not sure why, but I'm hoping to keep this one for a while. Somehow, it worked when I uploaded the image on my sister's laptop. DA must hate my computer.

We went to PHCC together, but went our separate ways. We both still live at home though so it's not like we never see each other. (plus with all my classes being online, its like she's always there) I actually still stop by Anime Club from time to time. I need some sort of outing.
I used Photoshop to make it. It was fairly simple, though the final product ended up being a bit large.
