Description
A mongoose looked up at uchafu and hissed. thats right you smelly vulture, i'm too big for you now arent i?She hissed under her breath. The mongoose scurried away quickly in to its hole. Uchafu had been waiting by the rock for a while. Suddenly, she heard pawsteps. She flattened her fur and hid behind the rock, poking only her eyes above the rock she had met that tall cat on.Ari looked over the rock cautiously, curious about the mysterious hissing he had heard behind it. A familiar pair of amber eyes appeared and soon the she cat's face poked out. "Have you been waiting for me?" he smirked at his young friend.
"Yeah!"" She said looking around. "Youre alone right? If i was caught my mom would kill me!""Oh, she said cubs were always killed when they cross the border, why didnt you kill me?" She gulped thinking she may have reminded him of his duties.
"Pft Why would I want to kill an innocent Cub who just wandered over the border accidentally?" Ari grinned, flicking his tail from side to side.
Chafu almost sighed in relief but didnt want to seem scared. She turned to the side and lowered her head. "Look! My back is turning black! My mum said it was there because her mother was a king cheetah. But i dont have stripes. What does it mean?"
"Well, your mother's mother was a King Cheetah? So that would mean you have some King Cheetah in you too, but a very little amount. So you might not have the stripes, you might just have a black back." Ari said, feeling quite smart.
Uchafu smiled at herself, I have king cheetah in me!
"Did you see me chase off that mongoose? It probably thought i was too big now!" Uchafu looked into the green, shady woods behind the cat, and then turned to the plain behind her. "I've never been in the woods before.. Whats in there? Can i go explore?"
"Sorry, but no. I'm bending the rules by meeting you here, so I seriously can't have you actually any further in my territory. If anyone finds out about this 'thing' between us by smelling your scent all over, I will be in very big trouble." Ari said apologetically. "But we can still have fun here."
"Oh okay." Chafu mewed.
"Do you know how to fight? Mum wants me to become a healer, but if the camp gets raided i want to join in too!"
"No, I don't know how to fight. I was a Hunter, not a Sentry." Ari smiled, flicking his tail across Uchafu's ears. "But being a Healer is pretty neat too."
"being a healer is boring. all you do is chew plants and sit all day. "
The tom looked amused. "But youre a chief right? Shouldnt chiefs learn to fight too? "
"Well, it depends. I was a Hunter and never learned how to fight. Yet I am willing to fight to the death for my Tribe, so I guess I sorta have the idea of fighting. I'm not an expert, but I can protect my Tribe." Ari replied.
"You sounds smart, can you tell me about your tribe? I didnt even know there were other tribes before i met you." She thought she sounded stupid, but pushed it away. it wasnt her fault.
"I'm sorry little one, but I cannot give anything away. I can't give you my Tribe's secrets." Ari said regretfully. He would've gladly talked to Uchafu so freely, had she been born in his Tribe. But she was from a different Tribe, which meant they had to keep their distance from each other. But something about the young frisky Cub captivated his attention.
"But i just want to know if youre like us. Do you have healers and sentris and leopards all over the place like us? And do you sleep in the water if its so crowded with it? How many people are in your clan? do you have a mom? You arre a cheetah right? whats your gift? Ar ethere cubs in your tribe?" Uchafu could go on forever. she was curious, and tried to ask non confidential questions.
"You ask to many questions." Ari smirked, flicking her on the head with his tail. "So I will answer them as best I can. We do have Healers, Sentries, and Leopards. We do not sleep in the water, but we have a lot of water around us. I'm not sure how many Tribe members I have in my Tribe, but we have many. I had a mother, but she eventually died," he paused with a thought of his mother and took a deep breath, "I am a cheetah and my Gift is none of your business. At the moment there are no Cubs in my Tribe, but we are look forward to some."
"Theres no cubs in mine either, i dont play with anyone anymore. There used to be some, but a few days ago, they both went on their quest to become a tyro or something. mum says i'm too young to be a tryo.." Feeling a pang of self pity, but quickly shaped up, feeling selfish. "But im already losing my fluff! " Uchafu stopped and looked around, thinking of something to do. "Can you take me to the beach? No one knows about youre 'thinking rock' and doesnt know where to find you right? So if you stay behind your border, and i stay behind mine, there;s no rules being broken right? we could travel down to the beach/ i have never been tot he beach before."
"Well, I suppose there's no harm in that." Ari smiled slightly at his young friend. He trotted down the border, towards the beach with Uchafu trotting beside him on the other side of the border.
She finally broke through his cautious side and was going exploring! And to a place she had never seen before! She thought about how her mother wanted to take her to to the beach, but was called back by a messenger saying she was needed for a hunting party. Chafu felt slightly guilty for not having her mother take her for the first time, but realized she would spend much more time with her mother than the cat. She remembered, "Can you give me your name at least? or is that a secret too? i wont tell anyone."
Ari chuckled, "No, my name is not a secret. My name is Ari."
She repeated it in her head so she wouldnt forget.Uchafu and ari walked for a while, and came out of the grasslands into a sandy flat. Chafu saw some hills ahead and heard what sounded to be a huge roaring."Do you hear that lion?" Uchafu asked. "It seems really close.." She walked slightly closer to ari.
Ari smiled down at the little Cub. "It is not a lion. Go look for yourself." he said encouragingly.
Uchafu stopped when ari stopped and glanced a sharp questioning look at him, then back at the hills ahead. She slowly but eagerly walked to the bottom of the dunes, the chronic roaring getting louder with every step. She made it to the foot of the hills and paw by paw inched up. When she got to the top, she looked out onto a vast, rugged surface that frayed as it hit the shore. it looked like water but darker and bigger than any body she had ever seen before. Wind whipped at her chest and face and she turned around to see ari climbing the hills too. She had an idea! "Hey ari!" She screamed above the waves. "Watch me!" She looked forward and jumped straight into the air. Her fluff caught the wind and she hovered above the top of the dunes for a couple of seconds, she got scared and flailed her paws reaching for the ground, before landing again. "She laughed at how silly she must have looked. "You try!"
Oh Ari, what have you gotten yourself into? Ari smiled as he crouched low. Suddenly, he ran full speed ahead right at the edge of the dunes. He jumped of the dune and went up into the air for a few seconds before falling down to the ground, getting a face full of sand. He blinked sand out of his eyes to see Uchafu laughing at him. He smiled and sat up, drawing scribbles in the sand with his tail.
Uchafu hopped all the way down to the water's edge and suddenly felt wet sand between her toes. she shook all fours like some kind of wet meerkat! she got used to the uncomfortable feeling soon enough, and pawed at the odd substance before her. ari wasted no time in charging into the weird liquid. Uchafu sniffed it and tasted it. she bunched her nose in disgust at the horrid taste. Cautiously and hesitantly she too walked into the salty stuff. "EEEWWWW!" Ari ran by her and splashed it onto her fur. Uchafu started chasing him too, and soon enough they were both soaking in salty grossness!
Suddenly, a clap of thunder tore through the sky and Ari signaled for her to leave the water.
"Gotta go. It's gonna rain." Ari said hurriedly, signaling Uchafu to get out. He didn't want the fun to end, but he hated the rain. Besides, it was pretty much time for them to go to their separate Tribes anyways.
Uchafu's long cubfur was matted with seawater, and sand rubbed against her skin, but she didnt want to go home yet! The wind must have blown the storm in, it had appeared so suddenly. "Your tribe may wonder why you went to the beach hehe! oh well the rain will wash it off, but i'm afraid i cant make it to my camp from here. if i go back to your thinking rock i can find my way back though, but i dont know the way to your thinking rock!"
Ari and uchafu made the trip to the rock again, and when they got there it was pouring rain and their coats were clean and soft from the salty bath. "Thanks so much for taking me to the beach!"
"No problem. Anytime." Ari said, not trying to sound choked up. But he couldn't leave Uchafu in the rain. But you're Chief, you can't be friends with her anyways. he thought regretfully as he turned away towards his Village.
Uchafu could hear the sorrow in his voice, and chirped for him. She ran up to him and with her head, which barely reached to his shoulders, rubbed his chest tenderly. "You're the closest to a father i've ever had. and most of the cubs in my tribe are taught how to hunt and fight, just in case, by their fathers. I only have my mother, who is too busy with messages to play with me. So thanks for everything!" She looked up and smiled into his eyes. "I know we may have to fight someday and i understand how hard it will be, but its not those moments that count, mum says. its the happy moments." Uchafu hoped she chose the right words.
Ari smiled sadly, letting the rain pour down and dribble down his back. Uchafu's eyes lit up in the rain and Ari looked down at her and whispered "Thank you for the time we had together."
Chafu flicked at his tail playfully as she trotted back to her side of the border. "Bye Ari! And be safe in this rain! you dont want your water to be too crowded!" Ari could hear her giggle in the heavy downpour. Chafu looked back to see him smiling too.
Ari smiled as he watched Uchafu trot away from the border, away from him. He stood there until the tip of her tail disappeared in a bush and he rose to leave. Before he turned away he thought It will only get harder.
