Before Pascal could even remember, he and his younger sister were adopted by the McRaneys, a young couple that couldn't have children of their own. The two of them grew up in a household that many would consider pampered, (though Pascal will swear they were just really loving,) flooded with support. They didn't look much like their family, and while they still felt like they belonged in it, when he got a little older, Pascal couldn't help but ask why. His parents were open and honest, telling him plainly that they'd been adopted, and doing their best to explain to a young child what exactly that meant. At the time, the explanation was tame enough, and though it might've been naive, Pascal viewed that fact as something to be proud of, more than anything.

It wasn't until he'd been in school a while that the fact that he'd been adopted started to be troublesome. Kids would tease at each other that they were adopted, and Pascal, not picking up on how it was meant to be insulting, would chime in that he really was. His peers just took it as an easy way to further mock the budding teacher's-pet. Coming back home, he confessed to his parents what happened, they coddled and comforted him, assuring him that it wasn't something to be ashamed of. Knowing just how bright and friendly their son was, they convinced him to try a little more to make friends. There were kids out there that would understand, and wouldn't even mind, and his parents told him that those kids were the ones that mattered. Pascal took the advice to heart, going out of his way to ignore the teasing, and to find kids that just liked him for him. And it worked, for the most part. His positivity paired with his already emerging urge to help those around him led him to gaining a small group of friends, which were plenty enough to make him happy.

However, going into highschool, things got a bit trickier. The small group of friends started branching apart, splitting off into different cliques and barely keeping contact with one another. In a way, this robbed Pascal of one of the defenses he had against the doubt about his upbringing. Without the company to distract himself from the odd taunting, he'd started reflecting more and more on what could've happened before they'd been taken in, what kind of people his birth parents were, why they'd chosen to give them up in the first place. He refused to bring it up to his parents, afraid they'd be uncomfortable with the topic, and instead buried himself in his schoolwork.

His parents noticed the rut he was in, and while at the time he refused to talk about why, they resolved that something had to be done to cheer him up. This led to Pascal meeting Mimi, his Audino. When he was younger, Paz had dreamed of working in a pokemon center, so his parent's whole intention was to help inspire him, but as he'd grown up, it shifted to helping people instead. Regardless, he and Mimi hit if off, becoming fast friends, and momentarily distracting him again from his doubts.

Every now and again in the weeks following, he'd still consider the idea of bringing it up with them and asking to know more about his birth parents. Eventually, the choice was made for him. Their parents called both him and his sister together, explaining that they'd been contacted by their birth mother. She'd gone through so much searching and paperwork to find them, and in the end, much to the relief of the siblings' parents, had just wanted to meet them. Pascal was almost to eager to accept to meeting her, so curious to know more about the people that could've raised them, and before he knew it, a meeting had been scheduled. He was a blubbering mess within half an hour, learning about how they'd been put up for adoption because she'd wanted a better life for the two of them, one that should couldn't provide after their (birth) father left. The group passed stories back and forth after that, one thing particularly striking a cord with Pascal. When he told her his plans to become a doctor, she'd been so happy. Proud. While he'd been surrounded by supportive people his whole life, knowing that his biological mom, though she hadn't been able to see him grow up, was proud of him left him feeling entirely more determined to reach his goal. After that, he was back on track, even excelling quicker through school.

Pascal kept in touch with her after that, more than glad to know that at least one half of his birth parents was cheering him on. He was reminded of this all through the following years, and again during his college graduation, when she gifted him with an Audinite, asking Mimi to look after him as he went out into the world. The little Audino took this wish to heart, and it's been hard to get her out of her mega form since.

After all his training was through, Pascal caught wind of Isla Crescendo, and determined to put his newly honed skills to work, he packed up and headed out. Settling in Pinyaaple Town, he helped start up a small local clinic, eager to help those on the island.
