Description
Here's another long coming project of mine; a full body maquette of my character Dack. I had wanted to do something like this for the longest time, and I finally got the chance to do so in one of my sculpting workshops.Just like my Delrin sculpt , I took sketches and drawings of the character and used them as sculpt reference. The piece is roughly 11 inches tall with an aluminum wire and foil armature. I used a combination of Super Sculpey and Sculpey Firm to make the piece. The Sculpey Firm was used to add extra detail like his hair, tufts, coat extensions, and gadgets. Super Sculpey was used as the base for the rest of the piece.
Overall it was great practice for detailing and finishing of my traditional sculpts. It also doubles as an excellent reference/development tool for future works involving the character. It's very useful to see such a thing from all angles, wouldn't you agree? =]
I'll upload a walkthrough of what I did soon, but in the meantime, enjoy these extra shots:

I don't suppose you would sell this? xD
because I would buy it.... seriously...
It's so beautiful, I am literally at a loss of words on how to describe my feelings about this. The amount of work, detail and consistency is all evident in this. I am so happy, I don't know why lol.
Once again man. A TRUE work of art. You should be proud of yourself

hmm, I was considering it but I think I'd miss it too much. I would be up for trying sculpted commissions though.
Glad you like it. There was definitely a lot of work put into it and I'm quite happy with the way it came out. =]

Somehow it reminds me of your DA persona when comparing to your sculpture.

Well, my DA persona is actually robotic ball you see in my DA icon, but it's usually accompanied by the fox character you see here [link] . I would have added it along with this maquette but I couldn't think of a decent way to make it 'float'. =]

Yeah, having that robotic ball in this maquette would of been like almost impossible! XD

Damn you seem to be cranking out the work Jase!
Nice detailing like the seam on the gloves and I'm guessing you used a pen lid for the impression on the top boot buckle?
I like how you have done the blue rim lighting as well.
Yeah having a physical sculpt of your character would definitely help to use as reference, but also doing this would help realise your character more.
Guess the only thing I would look out for later on is maybe try and thing our some of the added pieces some more, like the zip and eyelets so you have a greater variance of thickness's.

Yep, I have a backlog of stuff that I've been meaning to finish up and share. Probably will slow down a bit once I get that out of my system.
You're spot on with the details. I don't think anyone would have guessed at the pen lid thing. XD
Ah and yes, good point about the thicknesses. I was being careful not to make things too thin because I was afraid it would be smoothed out or too fragile after baking, but I'm pretty sure I can push it further now that I've gone through the process a couple times. For one, the hardened state seems to lend easily to carving and sanding, so I think I'll take more time detailing 'post-bake' next round.
