You saw a lot yesterday because yesterday was Stop SOPA day. You probably would have seen it on a lot of sites. Wikipedia shut down yesterday, Google put up a petition, and even DeviantART had a debate if you were paying attention to the header.
SOPA and PIPA are laws currently being considered in the American Congress and Senate that basically gives them ability to censor sites for anything ad everything that is "copyright infringing"
For example, if I draw fanart of Pokemon and post it online, I can potentially be sued for using Copyrighted Characters. Whatever site I posted it on will be blocked from search engines and other sites that link to it.
As you can imagine, the Internet is RAGING SO HARD
I'm looking at the effects of the protest right now. Hopefully we drilled it into those politician's heads why this is a terrible idea. If you have't already, I suggest reading more about it. Even if you don't live in the US, this will affect everyone, as most of the sites we use are based in the US

WOW I do live in the US, and that is probably why I got a strike on my youtube account yesterday. A video I posted like a year ago got taken down for copyright infringment and if someone has 3 strikes their account gets deleted!

That's always been in place, because we do want to prevent copyright infringement. SOPA and PIPA aren't implemented yet.
Right now, if there is copyright material on a website, it's the user's responsibility for putting it up and if the website takes it down fast enough (as Youtube did with your video) they're fine. What's being proposed with SOPA and PIPA now though, is that the website is directly responsible.
So someone posts a video that contains images/gameplay/music/whatever from ANYTHING they didn't make will allow the government to basically shut down Youtube. This means that Youtube (as well as all websites containing user-submitted material like Deviantart) will be shut down just for one user doing this. And a site can't even ink to another site that has possible Copyright infringement. So let's say Youtube gets shut down (which is very likely if the laws are passed), then any websites that has a link to Youtube has to take down those links or they might get taken down too.
Basically, the Internet will die as we know it.
You really should read up on the issue.
