Texture are often Random colours and squigles on a seperate layer that gives the painting for example more colours!
Try it out by adding a new layer to your painting, put some random colours on it and than put the layer to overlay!
:> Hope it helped!

N'aww, he's so cute. Thoses cutie's eyes... <3
I like how simple it sound but how neat the result is. I personally can't draw one thing on Gimp without creating an eldricht abomination :/ But you do a cool job with it!
PS: I may or may not steal your shading style because I'm just that unoriginal. Ahah, just joking, but it's actually helpfull ^^

"Finally added texture and other bullshit in GIMP." That... For some reason, I busted out laughing as soon as I read that part. But in all seriousness, this is quite handy, a very nice tutorial. I've always been curious about how it was you got the output that you did with your art. Very interesting. Thanks!

It looks and sounds so easy but it isn't (at least for me ) ;_;
But it's still helpfull. Gonna try stuff out later.
Short question: Why do you use such a colorbomb like texture at the end? Isn't it kind of distorting the colors?

Cherrysnakecat In reply to MeusYume [2013-12-30 00:22:16 +0000 UTC]
i just think it brings out more colours and interesting texture <8,Y

(Someone was awake pretty long x) )
In fact, it really looks interesting. I mean: It'd never pop into my head to try it out (probably because I'm a newb). I'd probably try some grayscale stuff, or not even that, but that kind of opened my eyes.
Did you use a very low opacity or a special blending mode?

Cherrysnakecat In reply to MeusYume [2013-12-30 15:17:38 +0000 UTC]
I overlay and have the opacity on whatever looks best <8,Y
