Description
The inspiration for the lady Crusader and the child came from a friend of mine from work who is currently nine months pregnant with her first child and is now on maternity leave. Last I heard she was one day past her due date. While reading up on Crusaders and their quest to vanquish evil I thought it interesting that their apprentices if you will only take up the title if their teachers are slain, but how early does their training begin? Perhaps like in this illustration it begins early, maybe a year or two old, as the Crusader sees the young child playing with her helmet the idea strikes her that this is the child she should train to one day take up her mantle.Blizzard Entertainment
This isn’t just some contest to me. My sights are set to win for one reason alone: to meet the artists and developers of Diablo III at Blizzard. For the past two and a half years I’ve been trying to get into the game industry as a concept artist and after sending in application after application anywhere and everywhere all I get are automatic replies. It seems the best step I can take is just to get my foot in the door so that human resources or whoever it is that truly makes the final decision to hire their man power knows that I’m not just a resume, I’m a passionate artist who squeezes in paintings between calls selling cable. It’s a decent job, I work with a lot of great people, but it hardly satisfies my hunger to express my creativity. The visual aspect of the game, the character design, the creatures and the world all together is inspiring. I know I have a lot to learn, and that I’m up against a mother-load of heavy hitters, but call me a sponge. I will soak up everything this contest can teach me, what future creative opportunities have in store for me, and one day soon, I hope, I'll get my foot through that door.
In the words a Crusader might quote: “So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.” 1 Corinthians 15:58 NLT

Looks less of a game art and more like works I've seen in a museum. Certainly a piece that looks like it was made in antiquity.

The contest called for a portrait. So I thought about the classic kinds of portraits you see in museums, so right on the money my dear!

Great work, the lighting effect on the armour is beautifully done and I like the expression on her face. I must say the improvement of your art over the years is truly amazing.

Thank you! I'm glad you think so. I just hope its enough. There have been some recent entries that are really spectacular. I don't know if it will be enough to win. o.o;

this is really very beautiful. The armor, the composition, the look on the Crusaders face as she looks down on the child , everything is gorgeous! I don't know if it is intentional, but there is a softness to the two girls/women, and the young child that contrasts with the sharpness in the Crusaders armor that really makes her a great focal point. I really hope you do well with this contest, they would be insane to not acknowledge that you have a passion for this industry and an amazing talent as well!!!!!

Thank you Shay! The contrast of the softer character to the sharpness of the Crusader was intentional, I'm so glad you noticed.

O______O WANT.
stop that. I want to make all your armors. D=
I seriously cannot express how much beauty is in this image. And this backdrop is by far superior to the one you showed me before. Simply gorgeous.

You know this is very beautiful I can see the time and passion you put into creating this image I can see it as a concept art piece or a scene in a video game and while I and many others appreciate your work I have to bring up the question, ^_^
"Why hasn't anyone at at a video game industry, say "you know what, we should hire the pretty artist who made this artwork and maybe she has more to contribute so we should stop giving her automatic responses and being fucking schmucks and give her the goddamn job that she obviously is more then qualified for which we would've realized if we gave a shit! GOD!! I'm sorry I'm just annoyed that no one has gotten a clue and give you a position which you will be able to spread your work further!
I love this just as much as all your artwork after all unlike the video game industry I recognize talent worth enough to pay 10 times over literally!

Amazing art! And if this doesn't help you get your foot in the door, then they are doing the industry a great disservice! Best of luck to you!

Top marks for female armour that would actually work as armour, instead of a chainmaille bikini! It's beautiful artwork even besides, but that's the thing that caught my attention.

Amen to that! We wouldn't want our female warriors to get sceward in the first five minutes of a fight now would we?

I figure for a woman to be a crusader she has to be strong enough to lift all that armor, having height helps.

Contrary to popular belief this kind of armor is actually not that heavy, its just very rigid and complicated to put on all the pieces by yourself. If some jeans can give you trouble, imagine rigid metal where you have to bend and adjust every strap and piece into place.

OMG! My favorite of your work by far! They should be begging for you to draw covers for fantasy novels! Hmm... If I ever decide to write out the one in my head, you might need a restraining order against me because I would bug you so much! XD lol, jk, I'd only bug you a little and then wait for you to accept commissions.
