Description
I have just completed a vector of David Tennant. Now I thought I would do it as a WIP but then I thought, well why not example what I am doing as I am going along and share with people what I do... like a tutorialInstead of putting it all in one image and it being a bitch to download, I am linking all the pages from my scraps... just click the section you wish to read.
I would however request one thing... if you are wanting to favourite it, please favourite this page, so others know there are other sections involved and not just that one section you have favourited... ya get me?
So the list is as follows:
Base layers and a kinda introduction : [link]
The hand: [link]
The neck: [link]
The top: [link]
The jeans: [link]
Face shading: [link]
Facial hair: [link]
Lips: [link]
Hair : [link] - the brush I used can be downloaded here >>> [link]
The eyes: [link]
Finishing touches and correcting "mistakes" : [link]
If you are interested, I have 3 other tutorials which are for vexelling... however the technics used can be applied to vector art.
Basics: [link] Lips: [link] Eyes: [link]
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask, I will do my best to help answer them

One question, with skin tones do you generally "blend" between shapes? Also, I saw that you are able to edit the blend to include banding in the bead necklace, but is there a way to noise or something to get that gritty, more brush like texture using the blend function?

There is in a way... if you create a gradient with an elipse/radial gradient... and then use the layer opacity mode as dissolve and lower it... it will give a noise effect.
I hope that helps

I've had this tutorial favorited forever just waiting till I got Illustrator. Today, I finally got it in my grubby paws and was so excited to give this a whirl.
Holy Toledo this is tedious and difficult. Can you point me in the direction of any good beginner's tuts?
This is an extremely fabulous tut though - I can't wait to come back to it after I've learned how to actually draw the paths.

What are you using as a basis for your image? Other tutorials emphasize tracing photos. I hope you're at least working from your own drawings or something you did yourself.

OMG, could anything make me try to work on vectors more than David?
I've been trying vectors for a bit, I'm very thankful for the tutorials. I'm currently using Paint Shop Pro XI. I have a really stupid question though, what's the difference between vextors and vexels?

Brilliant tutorial. I like that you've shown so many stages of the process that others skip over and take as read. Picking apart the process really helps get an idea of how much work is involved, whereas other tuts just assume you can imagine all the in-betweens.
Thanks for this.
