Description I have just completed a vector of David Tennant. Now I thought I would do it as a WIP but then I thought, well why not example what I am doing as I am going along and share with people what I do... like a tutorial

Instead of putting it all in one image and it being a bitch to download, I am linking all the pages from my scraps... just click the section you wish to read.

I would however request one thing... if you are wanting to favourite it, please favourite this page, so others know there are other sections involved and not just that one section you have favourited... ya get me?

So the list is as follows:

Base layers and a kinda introduction : [link]
The hand: [link]
The neck: [link]
The top: [link]
The jeans: [link]
Face shading: [link]
Facial hair: [link]
Lips: [link]
Hair : [link] - the brush I used can be downloaded here >>> [link]
The eyes: [link]
Finishing touches and correcting "mistakes" : [link]

If you are interested, I have 3 other tutorials which are for vexelling... however the technics used can be applied to vector art.

Basics: [link] Lips: [link] Eyes: [link]

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask, I will do my best to help answer them

Uhm, i tought you said that you have a link to some brushes you use when you're making lines? I'm really confused too

But I just want to know if you use special brusehs when you illustrates ^^ Because, once again I use Pen Tool but it's hard to make nice shadows and lines because it's too harsh?

You understand? ^^ Do you have more like a smeared brush?

ChewedKandi In reply to Swelin [2010-12-14 02:45:04 +0000 UTC]

I don't use any smear brushes, I just lower the opacity of lines and shapes.

Hay! I really love your work on illustrator and trying to learn your way. But it's hard because I'm not as good as you hehe. I'm just wondering, what tools and brushes do you use when you draw lines? You seem to have more of a "fuzzy pen" than I have. I use only the Pen Tool, and my lines are so sharp and hard...

Sorry for my bad english ^^

ChewedKandi In reply to yhandz [2010-02-26 07:28:45 +0000 UTC]

I don't have many as I don't think they nurture creativity. I prefer my tutorials to show how to achieve certain elements, not certain styles

Hi.. Fantastic work!

I currently have 5 layers of the "face" step, which all have failed. I always become stuck on the part where i have to create the facial shadings.

Could you help me out with how to select the actual colors? I have one basic color, which fills up the whole face. But when I select another darker part of the face, it is (or at least, it looks) much, much darker then the original face. So I tried to manually select some shadings. But when I bring the brightness value only one percent lower, using the HSB color scale, it is already too dark. Could you tell me how you make these colors, these slight differences between the color?

Kind regards, Sander.
