...True...look,all im saying is that i was taught that wolves shouldnt be killed for ANY reason. Its pretty much how i was raised.Unlike other people(and im not talking about you -.-)i wasnt raised to believe false stories that betray an animals true self

I was raised to believe that wolves are as equal as any other animal, and if there are too many of them, then hunting helps not only them, but the prey populations.

If there are enough to start badly damaging the elk and deer populations, then further actions are needed.

I understand what you are saying, but wolves keep the prey populations healthy by killing off the weak, injured, and sick. Few of the attempts wolves make to hunt are successful unless they come across a particularly weak individual, and rarely will a pack try to bring down a perfectly healthy elk or deer.

Wolves don't always go after the weak, injured or sick. Many apex predators don't. In fact, on Animal Planet's special, Life, 3 male cheetahs worked together to bring down a perfectly healthy ostrich.

I'm sure you have. If it's a large enough pack, they'll go after any one they can single out. But I'm just saying they help keep the population strong by taking out the weaker ones. It means less work for them.

DiardiWolf123 In reply to chezarawolf [2010-07-04 19:34:55 +0000 UTC]

You still have cases of surpluss killing. It is observed with just about any predator, including wolves. Then they'll kill far more than they need or they can eat, and often even leave prey untouched. You said that wolves keep deer populations healthy, however, too many wolves in one area isn't healthy either, then they eventually won't have enough prey animals and start starving. Extreme hunger also increases the chance of wolf attacks on humans. Or the wolves will start preying on people's cattle and pets, and that resulsts into more angry people going out hunting them.

What I'm trying to say is: that's why they 'control' some wolf populations. I'm not pro Palin or wolf hunting either, but sometimes it's needed. If it's an endangered subspecies, then people should indeed leave it alone.

What matters this picture; if the mother dies, the rest of the pack will take care of the pups. That's why they have hunting seasons to prevent that from happening.

And what makes wolves more special than other animals anyway? They aren't worth any more or less than any other animal. They're equal to any other animal in my eyes.

I never said they were more special than any other animal. They just happen to be my favorite.

The weaker ones here usually consist of pregnant elk and deer.

Actually, its common practice for wolves to leave their cubs with a "foster parent" wolf, so that if they are killed, the cubs will have a mother.

Yes, I love animals but wolves are my favorite, and I do agree that hunting from the sky is wrong. They don't deserve this madness, sub-species or not. Though, it's not just wolves out there that are endangered. I hear that Bengal Tigers, those giant pandas, and much much more are endangered as well. All these poor creatures technically don't have a voice to say "stop killing me" and such, so we humans have to speak for them! If someone is mauled by an animal then yes I understand, but if it does no harm to anyone or anything then no you shouldn't go out there and kill it for sport, fun, whatever. It's just wrong!

NativeInuPup In reply to ??? [2010-06-18 08:39:27 +0000 UTC]

I think people should stop this "SAVE THE WOLVES" stuff, sense wolves are not even endangered, only sub-species are..I agree, shooting from the sky is quite pathetic. However, people should start focusing on animal who actually NEED help, rather than the animals that people "think" need help.
You drew timber-wolves in this picture, I can tell. THOSE wolves are VERY common, and almost like deer. Hunting them isn't bad, but shooting from an air-plane? That's kind of cruel. If you want to hunt a wolf, you shouldn't make it suffer so badly, let alone leave it there. >.<

chezarawolf In reply to NativeInuPup [2010-06-20 01:48:47 +0000 UTC]

This a a pretty old picture, and I know gray wolves are no longer endangered.
And I agree with you; there's dozens of other species who need far more attention and protection.
Yeah, they are timber wolves. I prefer they not be hunted, but I have no control over that.
I think it's extremely cruel that they be hunted by air. I would never leave an animal I kill to rot. If I kill something, I intend to use it. I'd take the skin, eat the flesh, and use the bones for projects and decoration.
Just killing for the sake of killing is idiotic.
I think there should always be a legitimate reason to take a life.

To begin, aerial hunting is the most cowardly way to hunt. If you got to go hunt, 1) make sure you're not killing an animal that has children and 2) you do it fairly. One guy I heard of went hunting with just a bow and arrow and killed a bear on the equal grounds that, if he screwed up and failed to kill it, it would kill him. THAT'S the brave way.

Next, I do believe that hunting is wrong but there are more animals in need of our help. Sharks and Bongo Antelopes for example are either being horribly treated or are critically endangered. And while there might be certain wolves out there that are endangered, there are more animals that do need our help.

I agree. Shooting animals from the sky is just pathetic. You should at least have a legitimate reason to kill the animal, rather than just for fun. And you should at least be on it's level.
Well, wolves are my favorite animals, but I know what you mean. There are far fewer pandas and ivory woodpeckers than there are wolves, and they are in more dire need of protection than wolves are.

Yes, it's sad that people shoot wolves for the fun of it. Wolves should only be hunted if their pelt and meat are urgently needed by a starving, unclothed person. I do not understand why people like wolves more than critically endangered, beautiful animals. It's sad really. They are not too smart. Like lemmings, they follow the leader. That isn't very smart. Hell, standard poodles get less attention, but they are the smartest canines on earth!

Well... if you put it like that, sorry to say, god does not exist. We evolved and have instincts to hunt, kill, and provide food for our families. This is called the food chain. They kill the lower animals to eat, we kill them, larger animals kill us (occasionally wolves) and so on. Wolves should be seen as just things to us, as if WE were animals. It's our nature. Just like the wolves.
