Well this is Shuna, Tea, and the golden wheat in the bg from Miyazaki's manga "The Journey of Shuna",
It's a really beautiful short story about the journey of a prince from a poor nation trying to bring back golden wheat for his people. Along the way he frees a slave girl named Tea. But when he finally reaches his destination... lets just say that he gets pretty hurt and can't remember much......u'll have to read to find out what happens
There's a website that has the first four chapters, but to read the rest u have to get the book and then use the translations online, but here it is in case ur interested- [link] Really touching story, I recommend it to anyone

This is so cute!! I love their expressions, the pose, and the background really helps set the setting.

And actually if you end up reading it, you'll see that there are also similarities to Mononoke and Tales from Earthsea as well as Nausicaa. This is because Shuna was created b4 all of them, but Miyazaki decided not to make it into a movie but instead let it influence his future films....just some pointless and random ghibli trivia

I wouldn't mind to see Ghibli make it into a film (even if Nausicaa, Mononoke and Earthsea used alot of elements from Shuna).

I love the story, and the character development is awesome, but I
don't think Miyazaki is planning on it
But yeah, earthsea has the whole slave-trade plot, nausicaa looks alot like tea, and the yakkul was given to Princess Mononoke
