A gift for . My OC, Mooneye, reimagined as a demon living in her world of Faelmon. The line art for this is nearly a year old (click here if you wanna see it). I started drawing this even before the Kota imaginings (links here for version 1 and version 2 ) yet somehow I just could not get myself to finish until now. And now, there's a double treat here because I finished it just in time for Musical May! Hope you all enjoy!

- As an incubus, his heart is formed out of a gemstone rather than organic matter. Mooneye's new heart is made of hematite. The high amount of iron gives his body a reddish hue like rusted metal.

- In life, Mooneye wore the skull of a crow demon as a mask. Since reincarnating as a demon, however, some sort of magic has fused it to his face and he can no longer remove it. His cloak has also taken on qualities of fire. The flame is green when his incubus qualities dominate and it turns black when his other demonic heritage takes over. When he removes the cloak, it reverts back to the tattered rag it used to be, reigniting only when he dons it on.

- Mooneye has a muscular physique covered in scars. He spent his life from battlefield-to-battlefield and his form in the afterlife reflects that. He has bat-like wings which have suffered some recent damage and his tail ends in a serrated blade.

Personality:

Mooneye is a stoic person. He doesn't show he emotions often and when he does they are often subdued, nor does he talk much. This is very much a by-product of his lifestyle. Being a specialist among the demon hunters, he spent much of his time alone whenever he wasn't in battle so he learned at a formative age to just hold back on his emotions and think situations through rationally. This helps him keep cool under pressure, making him an effective combatant, but his seemingly cold exterior puts off many who'd try to get close to him.

There is a compassionate side to Mooneye, though. As a demon hunter, he guarded his subordinates from stronger quarry and in death he watches over anyone lost in his mountain range. He has a soft spot for children. Having lost his own childhood, he goes out of his way to protect any children within his sight from danger. He also has a habit of cooking for others and preparing treats whenever the likes of Niko or Ruby swing by to visit. No one can leave his house without a full stomach whether they like it or not.

Story:

The circumstances behind Mooneye's conception were brutal. An archdemon is rarely merciful towards its victims, and in the aftermath the broken woman bore it’s child. Despite the trauma, the woman loved her child and she fled with him toward the mountains, far from the inquisition that'd surely doom them both. The two learned to fend for themselves, and though life was rough, at least they had each other. With each passing year, the boy grew stronger, but mother weakened. Fearful of watching his mother shrivel, the boy sought a way to save her. One day, he heard of the demon hunters and learned of the opportunities that became available to those who enlisted. With thoughts of a better life for his mother, the boy lied about his age and dove head first into a world of violence.

The boy became a man, and the demon hunters turned the man into the weapon known as "Mooneye." At times, it was a struggle for him to keep his demonic bloodline a secret, but with subtle use of his powers, he protected his comrades and rose through the ranks. He amassed a wealthy collection of demon lore and became a specialist of sorts, a free-wheeling hunter transferring from-unit-to-unit as he took on especially tough demons for commissions. One day, as Mooneye rummaged through the wreckage of what was once the city of Vividen, a nearby unit launched a distress flare into the sky. Mooneye rushed toward the fight and encountered his crew fighting an archdemoness. The she-fiend was making short work of Mooneye's men and he lunged at her in rage. The fighting was fierce with neither side giving an inch. Mooneye unleashed his full powers on the archdemoness and his retreating comrades turned back in horror. The forest was reduced to ash and the demon, realizing she stayed too long, retreated. The hunters returned with reinforcements and Mooneye stood alone in the scorched earth, critically wounded. Rather than aid Mooneye, however, the hunters only saw a demon. They bound Mooneye in chains and lit the fire that ended his life.

Mooneye awoke in the middle of a crowd of demons shooting him worried glances. From his studies, Mooneye quickly figured out what had happened. He had been reborn as an incubus. Seconds after this epiphany, though, his thoughts went to his defenseless mother with no one left to support her. Before could lament, though, a shrill cry pierced through the crowd. Soon one voice became two, then a mob. Some of the demons recognized his mask. They were friends and families of his victims and the crowd rioted. Mooneye fled to the mountains.

First he built a shack for himself, then he began to scheme. To make it back to his mother, he must cross the wide Swallowing that separated the continents. No ship made by mortals had ever made it past the ocean, and the distance was too far to fly, especially while he was unaccustomed to his new wings. Mooneye spent many months on the mountain gathering whatever lore and following any clue he could find, but found no way to make it back home...

The seasons passed and Mooneye's desperation grew. He had no choice but to risk going back into town, rioters be damned! There must be someone down there who could help him. So, with hood over his mask, the demon trekked down to the city of Haven. Night had fallen when he crossed the city limits and the unusual bustle of urban life unhinged him for a moment. Still, he pressed forward and followed the crowd.

They were congregating toward a tavern inn. The music inside echoed and everyone was crowding around trying to have a look in. Inside, the crimson succubus dancing in the center was mesmerizing and her movements were just as captivating as she. For a moment, Mooneye lost himself in her eyes and dreamed of things that couldn’t be. His will won over though and as the necessity of the moment sunk back in, he ripped his gaze away. There must be someone in this crowd that could help him and he could not risk staying long enough for a mob to form. He pushed through the charmed onlookers and sat at the bar where the owner, Pyrop , polished glasses. Pyrop listen to Mooneye's plea and told him of a pirate crew led by a demoness named Aka who regularly traveled back and forth between the continents. As Mooneye probed for more information, he became so intrigued that he didn't realize the music had stopped. The dancer had ceased performing and approached the bar. She introduced herself as Rouge , a friend of Pyrop's. Mooneye had been one of the few, she claimed, to break free of her charm under their own willpower, and she was curious to learn more, but the wary Mooneye couldn’t risk staying any longer now that all eyes were on him and her. He was adamant about finding the pirates and Rouge sighed. She knew one of the members, a blue-skinned succubus by the name of Sephira. By the way Rouge talked about her, Mooneye figured there was some grudge between the two, but when the crimson lady mentioned she saw Sephira leave the inn recently with some charmed patrons of her own, Mooneye set off. In full honestly, it took a great effort for Mooneye to leave Rouge’s side, but he did so just in time. The sight of his mask broke the enchantment over some of the patrons and a mob began to stir. Mooneye left just before a fight broke out.

In the streets, Mooneye ditched the crowd but was lost himself. He encountered a man named Morgan who offered to bring him to Aka's crew in exchange for a favor to be described at a later date. Mooneye, on edge but seeing little alternatives, agreed and followed the man. Sure enough, Morgan led him to the docks where a single ship was preparing to cast-off. Captain Aka was quick to greet the newcomer and Mooneye briefly let himself believe all will be for the better, but as he climbed aboard, he saw someone among the crew he could never forget. Her appearance changed a bit, but he recognized the archedemoness responsible for his death, Dementia . As soon as the two locked eyes, any chance at alliance was off and they clashed.

Will Mooneye ever see his family again?...

Other Facts:

- Like his mother, Mooneye also seems to be cursed with misfortune. Whether he looks for it or not, violence always follows him.

- Even with his collected knowledge on demon lore, Mooneye still can't identify what kind of demon he and his father are. From what he can gather, it seems to be a species that thrives on destruction, and opposed to incubi/succubi which thrive on forms of love.

- Mooneye's mask can be removed but only under certain conditions. Those conditions require him to become a full incubus, but then he'd never be able to defeat Dementia. Conversely, he has a chance to beat Dementia if he gets rid of his incubus essence, but then he'd never be able to remove the mask.

- Mooneye's greatest fear is starvation. He shows his appreciation to someone by going out-of-the-way to feed them.

- The claws and bracers Mooneye wears are weapons he crafted out of the bones of a fallen demon.

- Mooneye loves dogs. Puppies are his kryptonite.

Relationships with Canon Characters:

Rougalo/Akita- Mooneye pities the two hapless wanderers. It's apparent they've never traveled beyond their village before and know very little about the world. He'd help they out if they wanted but the duo, Rougalo in particular, are just too proud to accept. They are a lost cause.

Pyrop- Things with the barkeep are tense. On one side, Pyrop always does have good advice and sticks up for Mooneye from time-to-time, but it always feels like Pyrop is keeping him at a distance. Pyrop never wants him around longer than is necessary, especially at the inn where fights will break out. There's something else too, but it's hard to put a finger on it. Something about the man seems... familiar.

Rouge- This woman is dangerous. On the surface she may seem charming, beautiful, and ambitious, but underneath there are twists and mysteries to her that cannot be fathomed. The desire to learn more about her is captivating ... and unsettling. Are these feelings are genuine or simply a byproduct of her succubus power? Is it wise to open up to someone who thrives in secrecy when even his own allies murdered him at the earliest sign of fragility? Rouge can only be his downfall. It's obvious he must stay away, but only if it were that easy...

Aka/Pirate crew/Fuji/Wyverna- No thoughts on them one way or the other. As long as they don't bring trouble, there won't be any.

Dementia- Kill on sight.

Niko/Ruby- Must protecc and feed at any cost.

Morgan- The man is shifty, but he knows things no one else does. Make use of his knowledge but never turn your back on him.

Roselle- She seems alright. Oddly enough, she reminds him of a warrior he was training back when he was alive...
