o Kira’s name means “dark” in Gaelic
o She’s been known to chuck things at Lavi when he annoys her
o She’s religious, but only to the extent of believing in the Christian God
o She relies on Lenalee to help her fashion-wise
o If Kira hasn’t gotten enough sleep, she’s rather grumpy
o She adopted a wary nature from her Grampy towards prying questions about her past and family

.: Spoiler! Why does Kira not like to wear dresses? :.
Unfortunately, it's not a funny reason. During the Church-fire she was caught up in when she was nine, her dress got caught under a fallen, burning beam that had loosened from the Church ceiling. She was trapped there until Chikita led a fireman into the mess to rescue her. Ever since, she's not worn a dress of her own free will, that is.

Taking into consideration what I said above (nodressesforKira), when it came to her casual, I chose pants - and before you get onto me about how "un-late19thcentury" it is, remember that Hoshino has been known to mix modern elements into D.Gray-Man (for God's sake, look at Lenalee's skirt! /shot + training outfits of the exorcist women, etc). In case you've forgotten, Parasitic type Exorcists are a tad different from Equip type. That is, their Innocence's form is heavily affected by their state of mind. Remember Allen had many forms for his Cross (His Innocence name before it evolved into Crown Clown). Only once he had settled on his goals - his purpose - did he finally reach the full, true form of his Anti-Akuma Weapon. Kira, being the confused, emotionally-unstable teenager she is, has obviously not reached a point where she has set her goals and/or purpose. In addition, she's not that strong at all, even with the forms she can take on.
Edit: How can she form weapons if her Innocence is her skin? Simple. Her Innocence is the TOP layer of her skin, if not an extra. We have multiple layers of skin, ya see. When you get scratched, sometimes you don't bleed, right? Well, case closed, folks. Kira can manipulate that top layer of skin and form weapons - 'course, she loses her defense when she does that, and what little she has left (covering her vital areas) isn't as strong and /will/ crack under direct attack of a Level 2 or Level 3 Akuma. Hope that clears up some things c:

To give more info on Kira's ethnicity as well as family history:
Her mother, Arianna Song, was half Cherokee, half British. The reason why Arianna has her name and not a real Cherokee name is because it wasn't uncommon for leaving native Americans to adopt names from settlers - Arianna means "pure". Her last name, meanwhile, was chosen by her (she never took on her father's last name for... reasons). Meanwhile, her father was British, marrying her mother while over in America, and then bringing her mother and Arianna herself to England when she was nine. There isn't much info on him since Arianna never told Kira, her daughter, much about him - reason being, he kind of lost his mind in the end, which led to both Arianna's mother and father dying in a house-fire. Bitterly enough, Arianna died in a kind of house-fire as well when Kira was five.
Her father, Charles Malcolm, was full Swedish. There really isn't much information on Charles since Kira doesn't really entirely remember him (he disappeared when she was two, after all). It is known, however, that Chikita was his cat first - passed down to each male of the Malcolm family line.
Her grandfather, known as "Grampy", is her father's father, full Swedish. Not much is known about her grandfather either, aside from him being a farmer most of Kira's life, and that he's remarkably intelligent. Curiously enough, Grampy doesn't talk much about the rest of the Malcolm family - who are all deceased, as far as Kira knows. The only time Kira has seen others of the Malcolm family is a number of individual photographs/drawings of men (Chikita is in all the photos next to each man), however, only their first names are on the back of the pictures - the last names have been removed. (Consequently, "Malcolm" isn't exactly a common Swedish last name).

I can't give specifics about why Chikita's not Kira's actual Innocence (yet has some sort of synchro with Kira's Afe'la Ohr) without giving away major spoilers for my fanfiction. Until that reason is revealed in SOTF, I won't be putting it here - sorry to my readers!
