Hello:

These are renders of the Alke class Colonial carrier. A ship inspired by the Core class carrier by Casual Observer that I re-discovered in the "Colonial Warbook" pdf by Kendal ‘Limerickcot’ Leask.

The other ship contemplated by the Jupiter Project, the 1150 meters length Alke class was created to offer a substancial fighter support in fleet operations, either accompanying it's parent battlestar, or as part of a detached task force. However, since the Alke class is a dedicated carrier, it is lightly armed, making it inadequate to engage enemy capital ships directly. But for such tasks the Colonials created the Berzerk class and the battlestars themselves.

Still, the Alke class has good armour, extensive facilities and a single (and very large) landing bay that offers more than enough protection to any incoming or outgoing friendly craft, including Vipers, Raptors, Shuttles or Transports. The Alke class was also the original testbed of a field-factory for new Vipers and Raptors away from Colonial bases, a feature perfected by the time the Mercury class battlestars were fielded.
