Been watching Darkwing Duck lately and noticed quite a few similarities between Reginald Bushroot and Star Trek's Reginald Barclay. The name for one, they're both rather shy and introverted.They both are in dire need of friends and instead of going out and finding them they choose to try and create their own, Barclay through the Holodeck and Bushroot through his plant experiments.
Both have had major physical changes happen to them: Bushroot turned into a plant and Barclay has been turned into a spider-thing, had his IQ boosted into the thousands and been altered by the transporter. (although none of his problems were permanent)

Poor Barclay, nothing normal ever seems to happen to him. On the other hand, Bushroot is enjoying some much-needed like-company. I think the two of them would get along if they could each believe the other one actually existed.

It's so funny you mention this, last year I was watching TNG and when I saw him I was like "... Human Bushroot?"

Yeah! That's exactly what I thought when I saw him. Even his story is similar in that he is lonely and wants friends but instead of going out and meeting people he just makes them himself.

It should also be noted that Brocco--Barclay was a hallucination once. A hallucination that appeared before a hologram, if my memory has no been corrupted by watching ALL the seasons and incarnations of Star Trek one after the other.

HA! Ohmygod. I immediately started thinking that the moment _I_ met Bushroot (I'd already "met" Barclay before--I watched Next Gen when it was new but only caught up with Darkwing Duck in reruns)...but thought I was the only one! I always kinda meant to draw something with the two characters together, but never came up with a clever enough idea. Kudos to you!
