Description
These are a few of the main characters from Roland Smith's books 'Cryptid Hunters', 'Tentacles' and 'Chupacabra'. Great adventure books that'll keep you flipping pages as if your life depended on it and then laughing so hard you rupture a gut. Dinosaurs, giant squid, robotic dragonflies, poodles, dolphins, genetically modified creatures, dark jungles, experimental submarines, evil zoos, secret pasts, hidden agendas, futuristic devices....these are all things you'll find in these books! There aren't any official pics of these characters so this is just how they look in my head.
Marty O'Hara: Artist, cook and survivalist extrordinair! He's a chipper 13 year-old with a sense of adventure and humor that just won't quit. His best catchphrase is "Duh du jour!"
Grace: Marty's twin sister (Uh...yeah, that's all I'm going to say lest I give stuff away to those who haven't read) She's brilliant but afraid of everything. And is quite unhappy when her and Marty's journalist parents go missing in the Brazillan jungle and they are forced to leave the boarding school they've lived at for years to stay with an uncle they didn't even know they had.
Travis Wolfe: AKA the mysterious uncle. Wolfe is a cryptid hunter. As in a person who searches the world for creatures that have not yet been proven to exist. His theory is that if he can prove these animals do exist he can convince governments to protect them. He has worked for the government at some time in his life and owns a small island off of Washington. To fund his animal work he and the island's resident genius run a business called eWolfe that creates high-tech gadgets for mostly governmental use.
Noah Blackwood: Think of a cross between Steve Irwin and the KFC guy. He's known for his tv show 'Wildlife First' and his beautiful zoos filled with rare animals. In the public eye he's a conservationist who fights for the rights of animals. His true agenda, though is simply to make money on rare creatures at his zoos before he has them stuffed for his own private collection. He too is interested in hunting cryptids but certainly not for their conservation. He has never forgiven Travis Wolfe for eloping with his daughter and disappearing into the Congo. He is infinately wealthy and can have ANYTHING done with the snap of his fingers......not a nice person.
Butch McCall: Butch is Blackwood's henchman. He will do anything as long as he gets paid. He can track a grain of sand in the desert and is at home in even the most hostile environments.......REALLY not a nice person. The only thing on the earth he is afraid of is Noah Blackwood.
Luther Smythe VI: Luther is Marty's best friend and former roomate. He's hyperactive, slightly annoying (in an extremely entertaining way) and has hair that's a color that is not found in nature.
Ted Bronson: The genius behind all of eWolfe's inventions. He has created a machine called the Gizmo that makes smartphones look dumb, a tiny nuclear powered submarine that looks like a big cushy beachball, a tiny remote control bugging device called the dragonspy and a self pressurizing holding tank for a giant squid!
Great GREAT books. Maybe PG rated for some scary situations.

They're FANTASTIC. The first one is probably among my top 3 favorite fiction books ever! I like his books because they're not JUST adventure books or JUST humor or JUST mystery. They're all three. And the characters are marvelous. I've read books before that had good plot but you just didn't care enough about the characters to be a good book. Not so with these! Everybody's interesting even the secondary characters like the poodle and the chimp! I positively recomend seeing if your library has them. Cryptid Hunters is the first one.
