Description
Rover was not easily roused from sleep. It usually took at the very least a shout or a firm shake to pull him out of a sound sleep. But tonight was different. A gentle glow faintly illuminated his cabin and touched not only his face but also tugged at his mind. His eyelids flickered slightly. Something deep inside his head telling him there should not be light. Not so far from a solar system. Something continued to pull him toward wakefulness, more a sensation than the light itself. Like a sudden surge in his mind that would not let him continue sleeping. He cracked his eyes open and immidiately he bolted up in bed.The window.
Outside the ship something swirled and danced like a ribbon in the wind. He was on his feet in an instant, a strangely familiar sensation tingling in his mind.
The creature hovered just outside the window as if beckoning to him as it's long body udilated around it. It was partially transparent with an inner glow that winked and shimmered along it's center. The closer Rover drew the stronger the feeling became that something was activating his mind. Usually he would resist. Many species spoke through direct mental stimulation, often using electric pulses, but Rover didn't like people messing with his head. But this...this was different. It was a magnetic pull that he didn't even want to fight.
He pressed his hands against the glass, even that feeling seemed to be...right. And suddenly it happened. Something inside him opened up, something that had been hidden from him, locked away.
Rover's memory was a tricky thing. It was often quite tempermental. Sometimes he could remember adventures he had when he and Flyspur were young, but he couldn't remember what he had for breakfast. But what had always seemed written in stone was that any memories before waking up on the planet Jssfloon were gone. He had given up long ago trying to remember humans, or his family. Oh, there were disconnected facts that he had learned before then. He knew his name was Rover Finnigan, but he couldn't remember any human ever calling his name. He knew he was from the planet Earth but he couldn't remember ever standing on it. He knew that he had had parents but he couldn't remember their faces. He had been plenty old enough to remember but the three jagged scars above his left eyebrow and the nick on his ear told of the sharp blow that took all of his history away from him.
But now.....He remembered his room and the warm soft covers with horses printed on them. There had been the same tingling glow lighting the posters on his wall. Just as it had now, the strange electric sensation had woke him, pulled him from his bed with a fascination he couldn't resist. Only then he had sprinted across the room and bounded onto the small window seat, watching in delighted awe as the creature outside hovered outside, just as it was doing now.
His voice trembled slightly: "I-I remember you."

Here's the picture that goes with this.

Aaaw you almost made me squeal with that! The older post made me so sad cause it was a lost memory and here it is again! Must be an amazing moment for Rover, to finally find a memory again. As always, your lighting is beautiful and I can't get over that creature. It looks almost mystical, it's so pretty.
You keep melting my heart with your OC's.

I thought that after all Rover's been through he deserved at least this one memory.

Thanks. That thing is so fun to draw!
Yeah, just a tiny piece. But it's so much more than he had hoped for.

It's that bright glowing creature! I remember, as well! x'3 It's so interesting to look back at your previous picture and see how much Rover has grown up…even the creature got bigger! You can see the fascination/sudden realization in Rover's eyes, and showing his scars really represent the results of his lost past. But running into this bright guy again gave him some hints.
And, WOW! All the colors and glow in this look fantastic! Great job, as always! :3

Yep! It's a smaller universe than one might think.
Yeah, this is the first real memory he's had of his life before Jssfloon. It's just a flash in time but it's more than he's had so far.
I actually started the sketch with him facing the other direction and then I realized that it would be way better to have his mechanical arm and scars show. So I flipped it.
Thanks! I honestly just wanted to draw that glowy thing again. Glowing things are so much fun to do!

Yeah, apparently it is!
Yes, more like a moment of silence, really, for his early forgotten childhood. But at the same time, it's amazing for him to have triggers going on in his head like that. It's more than a dream.
Well, it's great you changed your decision, 'cause now the picture certainly tells a story
No problem! Heheh, I see. But I have to admit, it's a pretty cool lookin' creature. Who wouldn't have fun drawing things that glow?! It requires practice to have a better understanding, of course, but you've nailed it

Cool. I'd been wondering if the memories were still in his head or if he'd lost them for good when he was injured. Also, would it be just this memory he gets back or would this have brought back other memories? (I'm guessing you telling me would be a bit of a spoiler.)

They are there. He just can't seem to get at them. He has dreams sometimes that he is certain are memories. But he forgets them as soon as he wakes up, just leaving him with the feeling that he missed something important.

That's good. I'd been hoping that the brain damage didn't mean he'd lost them for good.

Yeah. I do think there are a lot of things he has lost completely as the damage was pretty extensive and the Jssfloon knew absolutly nothing about humans, so their treatment was fairly primitive. But there certainly are things still in his head that he can't quite pull up.
The idea behind this was kind of that it wasn't just the similarity of the experience but the creature's magnetic field that's affecting his memory. Or more likely the combination of both.

A combination makes sense.
Also, if it's not a secret, how did he get so far from any other humans?

I bet. I'm currently assuming it was some sort of ship malfunction that made the ship get thrown into the wrong part of the galaxy and then wreck.
