"Rover Finnigan of Earth, star traveler and merchant; on behalf of all Vipirion it is my honor to bestow upon you the highest honor our planet can give."Rover swallowed a bit, feeling heat rise to his cheeks and ears as the five tails of the Princess swirled around him and she stared calmly at him with those gorgeous ebony eyes.
"In symbol of the gratitude of every man woman and child," She dipped her graceful serpentine head a bit. "And most especially myself, take this bar of Royalty. We all welcome you as an honorary member of the royal family."
She set the glowing green rod in his hand and instead of boasting as he usually was inclined to do he found himself shuffling his feet under her calm, intense gaze. "Shucks, ma'am. It really weren't nothin'"

What in the world could a pawnshop owner like Rover have done to recieve such an honor? I'm not quite certain myself! Any theories?
I had so much fun with the princess that I just couldn't leave her alone. I don't think Rover minds

And I'd guess maybe he helped them from getting destroyed/conquered/etc. from maybe another planet or a group of outlaws or something XD If it's the highest honor their planet can give, I'd imagine he did something glorious to that degree

He's very impressed with her and thinks she's awfully pretty. But nothing creepy.

Probably more of a crush than 'love'. He thinks she's beautiful and amazing and would certainly like to spend more time with her. But a romantic relationship is obviously out of the question.

The scepter is pretty. I like the flecks of gold. The background is interesting too--odd shapes, those. (Just noticing some detail in this fantastically lovely drawing. Such invigorating characters! I love the hood the princess is wearing. I also like how Rover blushes up to his ears.

It's supposed to be a palace of sorts and the background is kind of representative of spiky-like columns. Not sure if it came out that easy though.

Okay, theory: Rover had found a rare Vipirion relic on one of his adventures, but didn't know it, and so when he came to their home planet they recognized it and he gave it back because he's sweet and a good guy. And they were so happy that they invited him to a ball where he was knighted and joined the royal family.
((Or he just really impressed them with his dancing))

Ooh! Fantastic theory! Maybe he did know it was from them but didn't realize how important it was. He went there thinking he could make a little profit on it but once he realized it was so sacred to them he decided that he'd just let them have it. He may be a trader but he's a good enough guy to know when profit isn't important.

Thanks! That was exactly what I was going for. It's almost a rule that if a character is a snake or is snake-like it will inevitably be evil or at least sneaky.

Sometimes smaller is better--even if you're a snake creature who can slither into small spaces, if you're too big, you're too big and that can be a real problem.
Plus, I bet Rover is great in a jam--being in so many tough situations, he mostly takes them as a matter of course. I can almost hear him saying: "Cheer up 'mlady, we'll have you out in a jiffy."
Though I don't know if it's THAT particular circumstance that brought about this. There are so many possibilities.

Now with your lovely princess and her people, I'm starting to want to do my own snake-like good guy race, though the story that follows with the one I'm toying with centers on a child of ambassadors whose parents are deceased but is being raised by an older sibling who followed in their parents' footsteps. Other characters would include a love interest for the elder sibling and several friends of both of them (all ambassadors as well), some kids who are friends with the young sibling and part of the party for various reasons, characters that pop in and out of the story as needed and various one-shot characters (who might move into the pop-in-and-out category).

Thanks. I have a bit more about the main character. He's a member of said species which is matriarchal and alongside his twin sister, has been raised by their older sister since they were tiny. However our young hero, due to being roughly the equivalent of a 14-year-old male human (there are no humans in the story but there will be information about rough equivalents to human maturity so the readers can get why the characters act the way they do; you can't expect a being whose maturity is mid-teens in human to act like an adult after all), has a knack for finding trouble; we're introduced to him being busted by his elder sister for the umpteenth time. Then they join the party they'll be with for the whole series and suddenly his trouble-finding starts to be less troublesome; no less potentially dangerous but it starts to do lots of people lots of good.

Thanks on both accounts; the verse in question is still in the planning stages but I have decided on a way to make inter-species breeding logically possible. Also your Viperon race (spelling?) has really gotten my gears turning with reptilian-based ideas including an idea that's somewhat got flavoring from all seasons of the My Little Pony franchise as well as some of my favorite fanfics from the most recent generation.

Lol! No. He's more like a space pawnshop owner. He's entirely human and even though he doesn't know it, since he's never seen another human, he's pretty tall.

Thank you! I've always wanted to see a snake as a good guy or even a main character. I can count on ONE finger a snake character that is genuinely a good guy. (Every time I watch the Jungle Book I just want Kaa to be a nice guy so bad. He seems to almost have a split personality. One that wants to help Mowgli and one that wants to eat him)

That would be awesome! I'm sure he would love them. He has kind of s corny sense of humor. Unfortunately his only knowledge of humans is on a little flash drive and it seems to only contain things pertaining to the American western. Roy Rogers, Lone Ranger maybe even a bit of Lassie. But that's pretty much it.

Here is my idea: Vipirion is under attack by a neighboring planet. The enemies' ships are about to start landing on the planet when Rover appears. He knows that he's got business there and he thinks that the enemy fleet is a blasted traffic jam! "Slow'n down ma schedule!" When he begins to talk to them and they see him on their view screens, the Vipirions' enemy think Rover is an ancient Vipirion leader returned from the grave! He was know for having a golden arm! They flee in terror thus Vipirion is saved and a long war was ended.

Traffic jam! I love it!! That is totally something Rover would unwittingly get himself mixed up in. He can be pretty dense at times...okay fairly often..and misinterpreting things is kind of his forte.
