Description She was right.  It was beautiful.  So very beautiful.  But not because of the warm glow that throbbed hot each time he exhaled.  Not because of the way the little lights flickered up and down the stem.  Not even because of the miraculous metamorphosis from a dead-looking pod during the day into this gorgeous blooming flower at the fall of darkness. While those things were indeed to be admired...it was beautiful because it was from Kya.  

She hadn't meant it as a present, of course.  As she had been showing him the colony he asked her if the vines clinging to every building had a purpose.  She had smiled...by the Colors that smile!...and plucked one of the dull, brown buds and passed it to him.  

"Keep it.  Wait until it gets dark."  Her eyes had twinkled knowingly.  

He was starstruck and befuddled.  He had never expected this.  Not only had she spoke to him and lead him around the villiage but amazingly she seemed to truly enjoy his company.  He had never met a Jssfloon like her.

He smiled at the warm light on his face and all four hearts glowed like the bloom in his hand.

Sounds like an amped-up version of a Moonflower. Or, similar to one at least. 

As for Flyspur, I don't think anyone on the Nellie-Bell isn't a sweetheart in some manner or another.

This is amazing. I love the serene, warm feel of the whole picture and the content smile on his face.

His eyes seem to have taken a lot of time. I mean, I just love that little spark in them.

The little plant in his hand is so cool! I wonder if it actually creates heat as well as light...

Oooh! That would be pretty cool. Especially if he kept it and planted it so that he could have its light and warmth on the Nellie-Bell!

Heh.  That could go two ways.  In the past Rover had done everything to try and get Flyspur to talk to a girl he liked.  Thought it would be good for the little guy.  And he could be just tickled at the whole situation.  But on the other hand he's used to Flyspur being constantly at his side.  And that might not sit too well with him.  

It would certainly make a great nightlight.

Oh, cool.  I have...I think his first cd.  And my BFF has another one.

Hmm...hard to tell which way it could go. I'd love to see a heart-to-hearts (plural hearts in Flyspur's case...) kind of moment  with Rover attempting to get Flyspur to talk to Kya about his feelings, but then that dramatic part of me that likes option number two where Rover's furious at Kya for taking his best friend from him.

It would! It's so pretty, too. As long as no one's allergic to them.

Heh. Who knows. There may be a bit of both. Rover's not exactly one to think ahead. I could see him being all "awww! Blue's got a girlfriend". And then. "Wait...don't spend THAT much time with her. This isn't going how I thought it would"

Well, since I haven't read the story so far (I noticed you posted something about it today, but I'm not sure if I'll have time to read it yet--I need to get more caught up on your written stories, so thank you for being patient with me! ), my impressions are that yes, her culture is quite removed from Flyspur's, different clothes and environment and possibly even a different language. As for her motives, I'd like to give her the benefit of the doubt and not accuse her of just using him, but I'd think she'd at least have to have some sort of reason for paying so much attention to him, especially since she appears to be a person of some importance in her tribe (or I remember getting that impression anyway ). Perhaps she's thrilled to see an outsider and has always been curious about them, and so is attracted to him because of that (kind of the "princess kept behind walls and wanting to see the world" syndrome or whatever ). Her culture could possibly have a less strict idea of thirds "having their place" as well; or perhaps she even IS another third, just like Flyspur, and has somehow hidden it (through a fake scent like perfume or something)? So she sees him as a kindred spirit? I'm not sure. Again, I'm certainly not saying she wouldn't just be a nice person and treat Flyspur civilly in any case, but for her to be paying him such SPECIAL attention... it does seem like she'd have a reason of some sort, something that makes him seem like a kindred spirit to her. Whatever that something happens to be. We'll see, I guess!

He has had very little contact with girls of his own species.  Oh, sure he did buisiness with them on Jssfloon and there was his mother and sister.  But actually having a pleasent conversation with a girl he isn't related to....it's a whole new experience for him.

Not sure. Maybe she had a third sibling so she has sympathy for them? Maybe she's a rebel who doesn't care about the society rules, which would be more likely if she's been off-planet.
