A fine work indeed. If you don't mind me asking, what software do you use?

sure, why not ? it was done (both sim and render) in houdini ! if you want more info on theway it was done, feel free to ask !

Thanks for answering. Never heard of it! I'm starting on Cinema 4D. On a quick research, houdini seems like more special-fx oriented. It would be great to see some of the process to create images like this one, the dynamics look pretty cool actually.

you're welcome !
indeed, houdini is quite used in FX, but it's all in all a very good animation program, but due to it's complexity (i'm not bragging here, i haven't scratch the surface of it yet) it's most ofen use by technical artist, and the fx tools, and the rrenderer is, for me quit amazing !
C4D is a very good soft (i don't know it well, but i know that a least) maybe more oriented towards motion design.
what i love about houdini is that there isn't really any "black box", you can dive into the particule solver and change behavior, but it make it look more complicated, which bring back the point made above...

on this sim specificlly, i first simulated de smoke with the voxel based simulation tool, then used the velocity field of it to move a bunch of particules !
and then render it and composit it, of course !

Well, that's great! Learning about new tools is always welcome. I should give it a try eventually, it seems very interesting. The official reel is beyond amazing.

i admitt i kind of fell in love with this soft (except for the modeling part) so maybe you should ask toher people
the good news is : they provide an apprentice version (PLE if you prefer) for free and unlimited in time ! (which make sens sinc it's quite long to learn)

i would not suggest it as first 3D soft because it might righten young users, but it should not ever be forgotten !

Looks great! It really resembles like a blur of ink being shot in the air...

thanks ! i personnaly think that the "particular" (or grainy) nature of the simulation is still too visible, but i'm working on that

Indeed, you're right, but it's camuflated by the so perfect shape

And you're welcome, btw

thanks again then ! i hope more particule will suppres the grainy look, and maybe even bring more details into the shape ! more on that later
