yehp~.. And try to incorporate labels in the actual object like, a "fire" labelled as "corruption" can be just a "fire" forming the letters "corruption"

That's what everyone in the workshop has been doing that (but don't think too much about the meaning hehe) and our lecturer criticised my work and told me that it was too "true-to-life."
Hm, you've never joined? At least you didn't have to bear the gross rooms...

hmm...well caricaturing is the basic of editorial cartooning. It's like, you have to make it cartoonish but still resembles the person you are depicting. There are caricature tutorials in the internet if that would help. I do think RSPC focuses more on drawing style rather than meaning (which is actually reverse in real cartooning jobs, like, we spend days coming up with metaphors and stuff. =3= ) so yeah, exaggerated and cartoony is good.
I just feel jealous that now in my art class, I have classmates who know each other from the RSPC editorial cartoon competition. And then I'm just alone in the corner.
anyway, learn what you can from the workshops there but don't be content with it especially if you're pursuing illustration as a career because it's a lot different from real professional work. The best things you can get there are experience and connections (from workshop-mates)
