It is not incest, in the movie, Mewtwo was cloned from a fossilised Mew while the Mew you see in the movie is a different one. There are more than one of each legendary as there is now a female Mewtwo which must have been cloned from a different Mew.

The anime is not canon. There is only one of each legendary

It kind of is and also explain the fact that you can have multiple legendaries on each game plus their shiny counterparts for that matter.

Fan theories are not canon

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DemonMew In reply to SonicTheHedgehog4454 [2016-06-10 12:41:17 +0000 UTC]

But the anime is there are more than one of each legendary, like there is a baby Lugia and a parent Lugia in one Pokemon episode so while this shipping is not cannon, the fact that there is more than one Mew is and that the Mew in the movie is different from the one Mewtwo was cloned from, so ship them I shall :3 (they are my favourite Pokemon shipping after all) :3

But hey, even if it was the case of one of each legendary in the entire series and games, Mewtwo's genes were recombined with other Pokemon DNA (and according to the Manga, human DNA) so technically he and Mew are far too genetically different for it to be considered incest
(Damnit, if I could remember all the facts about immunology like I do with these two Pokemon, then I would not need to worry for my exams lol).

The anime is not canon at all

In the games, Mew actually GAVE BIRTH to Mewtwo

So, yeah. That's about as incestey as it gets

DemonMew In reply to SonicTheHedgehog4454 [2016-06-11 18:21:12 +0000 UTC]

But the Pokedex contradicts that saying that Mewtwo was created, that dont sound like no natural birth to me. Also, how is Mew supposed to give birth to an entirely new species?
But hey, there is more than one Mew anyways though they are few and far between so this Mew is not related to Mewtwo just like the one in the movie.

SonicTheHedgehog4454 In reply to DemonMew [2016-06-12 11:00:15 +0000 UTC]

Well, I can explain that in full. The truth is; scientists modified an embryo and had Mew give birth to it. Also, Mew giving birth to new species is LITERALLY its purpose. That's how it made all the Pokémon, as stated in the Pokédex.

Oh, and... now you're talking about separate continuities. I'm talking about one continuity: the games. In the games, Mewtwo is DIRECTLY related to Mew

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DemonMew In reply to SonicTheHedgehog4454 [2016-06-12 11:20:45 +0000 UTC]

Actually, Mew did not give birth to all Pokemon, that would imply that all pokemon are related and therefore all pokemon shippings are incest including breeding them on the games.
No, all pokemon evolved and developed from the Mew species, perhaps this would explain why there are now so few Mews? As I said, there was more than one Mew like in the anime (as you can have more than one Mew in a game plus the shiny counter part) so it is possible that Mewtwo is not directly related to Mew, at least not the one people ship him with, perhaps a Mew did give birth to Mewtwo, but the Mew in this picture could still be a completely different Mew to that one.
The anime is just as cannon as the games and the manga which is why I am referring to them in this debate as well.

Evolution as we know it irl is not the same as evolution in Pokémon. Even if it did, it'd be as incesty as rl. All life on Earth evolved from protobacteria, which means we all share the same ancestor, which means everyone is at least trillionth cousins with everything alive.

The anime, games, and mangas are all different continuities, so you can't refer to them without invalidating the argument, since I'm talking about SOLELY the games

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DemonMew In reply to SonicTheHedgehog4454 [2016-06-14 11:40:15 +0000 UTC]

But in the games you can have more than one Mew so technically there are more than one. It even states that they are an extremely rare species meaning that there must be a small group of them and so this picture is not incest. :3

Can you really imagine a Mew giving birth to a Wailord or an Onyx? that just defies logic to me. It must be some kind of evolution, I have seen many theories including different types of evolution like the one we have in reality (rather than a pokemon being born a different species like a charizard giving birth to a charmander for instance and then evolving as it grows up) but unfortunately, the Pokemon creators do not state how exactly it all came to be, but I know they did not say anything about Mew giving birth to all Pokemon.

SonicTheHedgehog4454 In reply to DemonMew [2016-06-15 06:55:34 +0000 UTC]

You do not have more than one Mew in the games.

The Dex entry that stated Mew was a rare species took place before scientists or whoever confirmed Mew's existence. After Gen I, the Pokédex actually states in many areas that there is only ONE Mew.

Let me answer that question with another question: Can you imagine a Wailord mating with a Skitty? No, you can't, but it works. Why? Because video game logic. (by the way, *Onix)

I'll say as I've said before: Fan theories are not canon.

Although Gamefreak/Nintendo never fully 100% confirmed that Mew is in fact the ancestor of all Pokémon, many Pokédex entries suggest this fact while also stating as a fact that Mew has the genetic composition of ALL Pokémon.

DemonMew In reply to SonicTheHedgehog4454 [2016-06-15 12:11:33 +0000 UTC]

The Pokedex has never stated that there is only one Mew. Therefore you are only going based on assumptions and theories as well. Yes, Mew does contain the genetic composition of all pokemon which allow them to transform, but that does not mean that there is only one Mew, if anything, it gives more evidence towards there once being many Mews and that over time most of these Mews became other Pokemon as their DNA changed over time.
The Pokedex says that "it is so rare" meaning that there must be more than one of them otherwise it would just state that there is only one Mew.
By the way, it still remains unknown if Mew really is the ancestor of all Pokemon, the pokedex says "it is thought to be..." not "it is". It also says absolutely nothing about Mew giving birth to all Pokemon so that is all assumptions too.

At the end of the day, it is possible that there is more than one Mew and that Mewtwo is completely unrelated to Mew, there is nothing strong to state for or against apart from Mew apparently giving birth to Mewtwo in Red/Blue and even then, there could still be other Mews meaning that this picture is not incest at all. If you believe otherwise then that is up to you, just as it is up to the artist of this drawing to draw a shipping of them and believe that they are unrelated.

By the way, I am currently being tested for dyslexia, (the first test stated that I am very likely to have it, and I need the uni to arrange a second one to confirm it) so sorry if my spelling is not up to scratch

Many Pokédex entries state Mew as an individual, using words such as "it".

The "so rare" part was before the Pokédex confirmed its existence in Gen II. No one could've known whether or not this Pokémon was an individual.

I never said that it has been confirmed in the games that Mew is the ancestor of all Pokémon, I said that all logic points to Mew being the ancestor of all Pokémon. If you really think about it—unless someone has Celebi and/or Dialga—no one in the world of Pokémon can confirm this as a fact.

Ah, that's alright. "Onix" is actually based off the word "Onyx", so you were close enough. I'm just a Grammar Nazi ^^

Tehehe do not worry about it :3

But to be fair the Pokedex refers to most other pokemon as a singular "it" as well like for Magikarp's dex entry it says.
"It is virtually worthless in terms of both power and speed. It is the most weak and pathetic Pokémon in the world" on Pokemon X (poor Magikarp lol) XD
and there is this one for Ralts on Fire Red "It is highly attuned to the emotions of people and Pokémon. It hides if it senses hostility."

Ah... good counterargument...

Hang on... I'm sitting here trying to prove why there is only one Mew, while I should be sitting here trying to prove why there CAN'T be MORE THAN one Mew!

Mew is a mythical Pokémon, and almost all mythical/legendary Pokémon are singular. (only one that's not is Genesect) Not only that, but in no canonical circumstance has there been more than one Mew.

The only reason why I know that there is more than one Genesect is the fact that there are a plethora of Genesect in that dungeon in Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon. (can't remember the name, but it's the one where you find the Sand Looplet)

There has been more than one Magikarp seen, but not more than one Mew.

I still need to play Mystery Dungeon, my kid sister had the original one and I got really addicted to it :3

Tehehe and that still does not exactly disprove the fact that there is one Mew, it just means that it is unknown. It is like how we get mythical creatures like The Loch Ness Monster for instance, many people believe that there are more than one (if it even is real) or that it was once a whole species of dinosaur, very few of which have survived until now. (I kind of hope they base a pokemon on the Loch Ness Monster now, though I always thought Lugia might be that Pokemon) :3
Plus Mew still has a shiny counterpart.

Every Pokémon has a shiny counterpart. It's just how the game works. Even Pokémon that cannot be obtained in their shiny form have a shiny form to prevent errors in the game.

Mystery Dungeon is a VERY fun game. I suggest it all the way

Good point though that still does not disprove the possibility of there being more than one Mew  tehehe. Saying that I do not think there is concrete evidence for either game wise (hence why I brought the films and manga into this as they usually show more than one of the same legend). :3

And yes! I might hint at the family to get it me for Christmas I hear this new one is really good
