Ralph Bakshi's 1977 animated fantasy film WIZARDS was the first Bakshi film I ever saw. This was back when I was in Junior High, so I was so used to more mainstream animated films at the time. Over the years, I've grown to appreciate this flick - it still has some great cartoony designs, a strong message about war and technology, and a moody electronic score.Anyways, I drew the villainous Blackwolf and his young queen, because their scene always stuck out to me after all these years. It's just such a heavy scene, with Blackwolf wanting his future mutant son killed, simply because he won't be born as a human. The queen is obviously heartbroken by this, as she simply wants to live life peacefully in the polluted lands of Scortch. There's no clip anywhere on YouTube, but I fully recommend the movie if you're curious to see how things play out.
I like how this piece turned out, especially the background. It also feels nice to keep the characters sketchy looking, because hey....it's a Bakshi movie.

This was a strange movie, and a strange scene-that queen deserves better than someone as nasty as Blackwolf! Do you think she survived after the events of the film? Does she even have a name? What would you name her? (Also, your picture is lovely!)

I've only recently gotten around to finally watching this movie for the first time all the way through. Previously I checked out other people's review of it and everyone who talked about it, pretty much gave it a review of: "pretty good". Watching it for the first time, I initially thought that some of the storybook images they use throughout some of the movie would be bad, but I actually found it made the film feel unique in its own way.Really my only problem with the film is when they obviously reuse footage from other films except from Blackwolf's own projector, that felt essential to the story.

Sweet! Wizards is not one of my favorite Bakshi films but it's still an interesting flick nonetheless. I would like to see your take on Hey Good Lookin' or Fire & Ice.
