I wish that Legendary gave Mike Dougherty more time to film that extra end credits for KOTM.

Agreed, It would've focused onΒ Dr. Chen meeting her twin and then they would go and find Mothra's egg, It's a real shame it wasn't filmed But since the actress is still showing up in Godzilla vs Kong, they could include the scene in the next film either in the beginning or end.Β

Chen and Ling meet in Tokyo where they go to an guarded underground temple similar to China; there, it is revealed they're training their successors (a pair of 5 year old twins, but didn't reveal if they were Chen or Ling's children) who where doing the Mothra chant to a Mothra egg.Β The sisters have a discussion with one of them saying "They're not ready." with the other sister retorting, "We were like this once."
In another interview, despite the similarities, Mike Dougherty said he is not copying the Heisei Gamera Trilogy though he admits he knows what it is; everything being done in the Monsterverse is coincidental.Β He's following more of the Showa Mythos with elements of the Heisei and Millennium series.
He also goes on if Legendary gives him another opportunity, the daikaiju he wants to bring into the Monsterverse is Biollante because she's the only other female kaiju in the franchise and she has tragic story of being a genetic construct of a human, a rose, and Godzilla, similar to Frankenstein.Β He got it down to a T considering it felt like Biollante had a split personality.
