Description
I'm doing a second round of fan art based on my favourite creatures from video games (the first round was in 2015). This is #3 of 7: Endogeny from Undertale. In addition to just paying tribute to my favourite games, I'm doing this as a way of analysing and hopefully learning more about good creature design.
I've also recently started a blog all about analysing creature design: chrislikesmonsters.tumblr.com/
For every day that I make one of these, I will have a corresponding post on that blog analysing the creature design.
Here's the one about this creature: chrislikesmonsters.tumblr.com/…

Nice!
What I like about this depiction of Endogeny is the way you depicted the dog heads that seem to exist in the negative space between his legs.
This may have not been intentional, but I'm looking at this on an LCD laptop screen, and the dog faces seem to fade in and out as a tilt the screen back and forth. Very cool.

Thanks!
The screen effect sounds cool and I wish I could take credit for it, but it's just a nice accident that works because the faces are so dim.
I work on an IPS display so I can't really see the effect here, but I know what you're talking about.

I see amalgamate fanart, I fav! But no, pretty cool interpretation! I never considered Endogeny had more than 6 legs.. O..O

Thanks!
Here's my logic behind the legs:
Endogeny is the only amalgamate that looks similar to its in-battle sprite when you meet it in the world, but the side-view sprite in the fan room only has 5 visible legs. I assumed that we can only see the legs on the one side from that perspective, so if it has 10 legs then I can draw it in a way that makes both sprites make sense. 8 could probably also work. Not to say my interpretation is 'correct' or anything, but I like it.

It actually makes total sense, since it is implied there are multiple dogs (i.e. >2) in it.. which definitely adds up to at least 8 legs.

Oh my, that's utterly terrifying! I haven't played Undertale so I don't know the story behind this creature. But that is a creative design, and you captured that eerie environment quite well.

Thanks! Basically it's like the collective ghost of a bunch of playful little dogs. Unsettling, but also comedic. It's a pretty fun design. The screenshots that I included in the post behind the second link sum it up pretty well, I think.

Oh wow, poor things. I just read your links on the creature. You did a good job of trying to make sense of its form in a 3 dimensional space. The faces between the legs remind me of an impossible object.
