Even when we think we are diverse individuals, mostly it's not so true. A lot of people know only what society gives them. The common knowledge about relationships, nature, space, politics, etc., can be very limited. I don't know if I'm making my point well enough here, ugh. Example:
It gets better - most of the society is aware of the fact that there is something like homosexuality, and it gets accepted and supported more and more. But almost nobody knows about, let's say, transexuality. And those who think they do are mostly mistaken or don't get it at all. Why? Because it's not talked about enough, it's not on TV enough, it's not in books and magazines enough. When someone says "transexual", others don't understand it, or imagine creepy old guy who wears bra for kicks.
