I've uploaded this, because I feel that it is a much more dynamic view of the scene.

In 2258, whilst patrolling near the Klingon Border, the USS Lexington was ambushed by three Klingon ships: Two D-6s and a D-7. Their opening shot disabled her shields before they could be raised. Whilst the Lexington made a valiant effort to defend itself, it wasn't long before her weapons were destroyed and her Warp Propulsion crippled. Due to damage sustained during combat, escape pods were unable to be decoupled, leading to the Lexington desperately attempting to limp away to safety using an impulse engine that was, at this point, barely functioning.

It should have been the end for the Lexington and her crew. Yet, curiously, the Klingon attackers, at their moment of victory, disengaged and warped out of the system. The Lexington was later rescued by the USS Bowman.

The Klingon Empire disavowed all knowledge of the attacks. Starfleet Intelligence later reported that the Klingon Warriors thought responsible had been executed, on orders of the Klingon Chancellor, for treason and sedition. Their houses have since been branded dishonourable.

There are those who believe that the attack was a sanctioned operation. Starfleet Intelligence maintains, however, that those responsible were a renegade faction, attempting to reignite war between the Klingon Empire and the Federation.

To this day, the reason for their breaking off the attack is unknown.
