If you watch movies lately, aliens may land/abduct people in the country... but they invade cities.Β  They do a really lousy job of it too, just flying about and shooting random buildings.Β

Great picture.Β  Awesome use of color.

Anal probing or the massive destruction of innocents... tough choice.

Thanks man! I really appreciate it, the Wyeths (especially NC but also Andrew) and NCs mentor Howard Pyle are really huge inspirations for me. I'm itching to get back to some ancient astronaut/ufo related stuff soon. But of course, jobs dictate most of the art time. I need more sci-fi work.

Thank you! And that's interesting, I have had a similar dream as well but it was a long time ago before I was interested in any of this. Just the craft though, sort of glad I didn't have to deal with the pilots.

You've obviously never heard about the incident at Grover's Mill in 1938. Martians landed in the middle of NJ and took out NYC before they were stopped. [link]

Haha, this is true. Except its obviously a coverup. They weren't martians, but Zeta Reticulans. Oh, and there was a Reptilian piloting the saucer

That ain't the way I heerd it! Rigellians with a chelonian pilot and a Dentrassi cook. Better watch that pilot, he's a bit snappy.

The abandoned kitchen knife in her hand seems nicely prophetic ..

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ChrisReach In reply to Dkelabirath [2010-08-02 03:38:10 +0000 UTC]

Yup, never bring a knife to a laser fight haha. But I guess its better than nothing.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Dkelabirath In reply to ChrisReach [2010-08-02 10:03:13 +0000 UTC]

True true. I was more thinking that she's not thinking of violence, the whole 'we come in peace' thing .. but the presence of the knife unthinkingly gripped sort of works as a metaphor for the human government's knee-jerk reaction and foreshadows a likely combat. Perhaps I read too much into it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ChrisReach In reply to Dkelabirath [2010-08-02 15:19:23 +0000 UTC]

You hit the nail on the head actually. I think that is human nature, unfortunately, that when we fear something unknown or someone who is different violence is often the result. Its the fight or flight mechanism. Kill it or run.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Dkelabirath In reply to ChrisReach [2010-08-02 16:15:03 +0000 UTC]

Perhaps.. I think it is more the trials of leadership and power over so many people, without a proper guiding hand, that does it. Humans on their own who are responsible for their entire country, all the lives (and sadly economies) within, are more likely to snap and revert to basic instinct through the pressure.

(Personally I would say that is the reason that all leaders should rely on God when making their decisions, but I realise as a Christian that not everyone would share my view.)

This is just disturbing. Then again, that's usually my reaction to an otherwise innocent woman holding a knife like that. Love the color contrast.

Was she abducted or something? The atmosphere of the pic suggests that she knows something I don't, and that she is in wait.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ChrisReach In reply to lordmep [2010-07-07 22:05:41 +0000 UTC]

The way I imagined it is something like she was in the kitchen baking up some edible bit of Americana (apple pie, casserole, etc.) when she was startled by maybe a strange sound or something out in the yard. Her first instinct was to grab the knife from the counter and run out to investigate. And thats when she saw them hovering above her cornfield...
then here we are, at the height of suspense haha.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

lordmep In reply to ChrisReach [2010-07-07 22:21:16 +0000 UTC]

A bat maybe, but why a knife? This just looks way to forboding for what you described.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ChrisReach In reply to lordmep [2010-07-07 23:55:52 +0000 UTC]

Because she was probably using it to cut up vegetables or something when she was alerted to the disturbance in the field. Its a chef's knife. She grabbed the closest thing and went outside.
Knife just made sense given the context.

That said, a knife probably won't hold up to well against lasers.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

lordmep In reply to ChrisReach [2010-07-08 00:00:45 +0000 UTC]

I guess I've just been conditioned to see anyone holding a knife outside a proper knife holding area as a potential serial killer.
