DAZ3D - Iray - PhotoshopPretty much everything in shot has had it's textures gutted and redone by moi. From the bark on the crown and staff, to the Dragon's Scales- all textures were opened up in PS and either added detail or replaced entirely. The leaves in the storm are also completely redone- I took an existing product and added my own HD opacity maps and higher resolution textures to each of the leaf-groups. It took 9 hours in total to render due to my PC crashing halfway through the first render, no idea why
Minor postwork in PS to bring out some of the detail that bright daylight unfortunately washes away.
I had a lot of fun with this. Please let me know what you think below :-D

That's generally my approach to my own images...I don't care for "Out of the box." models and generally have to retexture...I often use shaders but a lot of the time I have to get in there and create something new...or just edit something I don't think is quite right...I have like 8 folders just full of patterns and images I use to do that...I hate creating custom textures but I'm not above doing that if the image calls for it. The thing I most commonly retexture...Tree Bark LOLΒ

That's where the fun lies for me. I love making custom textures. Tree bark is doable if you have some good bump and displacement maps. Once I've created a texture I like the look of, like the bark on the handle of the staff, I'll save it as a shader preset and then it's good to go whenever I need it again. :-D

I don't do that very often but I do lots of tweaks to existing texture and such that I should probably save...I like to save certain character presets...materials mostly. Β But I'll start saving my shaders too. Β I'd love to know how those guys like Stonemason, make custom shaders. Β There's these glass shaders that could use a transparency map.
