Just my usual recap of my year in planetary (… I use that term loosely
) astrophotography.The objects are, in order:
- The Sun.
- Venus.
- The Moon.
- The International Space Station.
- Jupiter.
- Saturn.
I haven’t done a terribly large amount of astrophotography this year. I’ve been fairly busy and away from home a lot – I spend the first few months interstate for my Anglo-Australian Observatory studentship, and on top of finishing my final year of university (I now have a bachelor degree in applied science, majoring in Physics/Astrophysics) I have been getting increasingly social and going to a lot more parties!
So I’ve been finding it hard to find time to get the telescope out. It looks like the Sun is starting to become more active, and there is a Mars season on the way, so I hope it should pick up again in the next few months.All image were taken with my 10” Newtonian telescope. Some were taken with an EQ6 tracking mount while others were taken with a simple Dobsonian mount. Some were taken using a DMK21AU04.AS while others were taken using a Canon 400D. Various filters and eyepieces were used.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to the current clouds/rain/storms leaving so I can get a look at Mars! The weather is being annoying, as always.
I've been meaning to get into some more deep sky stuff, but that requires me to spend more time setting up the mount properly. Hopefully I'll get out there some more soon!

Yeah, polar aligning! I've fallen out of practice with it, so I'll have to get out there a bit more to get used to it.

So you don't polar align for planetary imaging? Just point the mount north? I pa no matter what I'm doing. Just realised: It will be more difficult for you without Polaris in view

Yeah, I just roughly aim the mount south. The planet still drifts around a bit, but I just shift it back up to the centre of frame every 30 seconds or so with the hand controller. Seems to work fine. I shouldn't be so lazy.
