Description I'm a huge fan of Walking Dead, so I was happy to accept this request. Michonne might be my favorite character too so this was awesome. More experimentation with mixing the warm and cool greys. I did screw up and give the one zombie a bottom jaw. Whoops.

Warm and cool Prismas, white paint and vellum bristol board

Michonne © Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard...I think?

God, what you do with markers is pure magic.
I really like how this one is composed, even more than pretty much everything else is your gallery which, for me, is really saying something since you seem to have a great eye for it.
Do you plan on doing any of the other characters from The Walking Dead?

Indeed. Michonne one of those quirky characters that Kirkman's so good at writing. Always layers to them.

I finished reading Vol. 1: Days Gone Bye on Wednesday night, and now I'm itching to read the next part.

Do you know if the story in the TV series matches up to the books? I want to read it before I watch it and I'd rather not see any spoilers.

ChristopherStevens In reply to ralphenstein [2011-05-19 14:57:53 +0000 UTC]

I'm jealous. You get to read all those books back to back like that. The rest of us junkies have had to wait and get it in tiny bits heh.

The show's pretty faithful in a lot of places and goes in different directions in other places. It's a good balance.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ralphenstein In reply to ChristopherStevens [2011-05-19 15:33:26 +0000 UTC]

You shouldn't be jealous - I'm at great risk of accidentally finding out the plot before I've read it, which can completely ruin it. I think it's probably wisest to just read it as soon as it's released, even if you do have to endure anxious waiting between issues/volumes.

I'm glad to hear the show doesn't follow exactly the same plot in a way. It means I could watch it first, and still not be sure I know what's going to happen when I read it.

ChristopherStevens In reply to ralphenstein [2011-05-19 16:12:04 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's definitely safe to watch, but that's mostly because there's only been 6 episodes. Even if they were completely faithful, there wouldn't be anything to spoil. There's plenty of differences though which is good.

ralphenstein In reply to ChristopherStevens [2011-06-04 21:23:05 +0000 UTC]

I've watched up to episode 4, and I'm really impressed. The story does deviate from the books quite a lot, which I'm happy about, 'cos I really can't guess what's next. At the same time, I think they did a good job of creating a similar atmosphere, so I think they stayed faithful to the original in that respect very well.

I was surprised to see a familiar actor playing Rick. Andrew Lincoln is an English actor who starred in a UK drama "Teachers", putting on, to my English ears at least, a fairly convincing US accent.

ZhouRules In reply to ralphenstein [2011-05-19 14:57:37 +0000 UTC]

some parts match right up and some are WAAY off. cuz Kirkman didn't want the show to match the books exactly cuz it looses the element of surprise as far as plot twists and character deaths go. He wanted the show to be like the book in that you don't know what to expect, even if you've read the book. So while it'll follow the path of the books it'll get off the path a lot for that element of surprise.

exactly. its a smart tactic of Robert's in my opinion. watch the show makes you wanna read the book and still enjoy the book. if you read first you're gonna wanna watch the show, but you'll still enjoy and be surprised by the show. so it works well. i actually watched the show first before i got into the book.

I didn't know he was not American, but I could tell his accent was fake right away personally. But he's a good actor and plays the part well. I saw a Kirkman interview where he said the show is gonna follow the book, but break off into tangents and change a few things throughout. So you'll see it giving the feel of the book with a few similar and a few different things

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ralphenstein In reply to ZhouRules [2011-06-04 22:07:58 +0000 UTC]

I can't say I'm that surprised you noticed his fake accent, it's always much easier when someone's trying to put on your own accent, or one that's similar.

I loved the episode where Jim won't stop digging and how it tied up with the ending.
