Description If there is such a thing as a God, what would He look like? The body and soul of a man, with the limitations of a man, and the vision of a man, and all preconceptions there of? Or would He look like something beyond comprehention, with pronouns applied as a simple convience, and would the limitations and laws He creates have a greater purpose than of just limiting his creation? Could he even be Purpose Itself?

Done at the beginning of my digital painting exparamentation. This was THE first digital painting I ever did. Since I am a VERY spritual person, this was an expression of a concept of God I had at the time. I still hold the concept, of course.

I'm fairly open to a philosophical conversation BUT I do not want to get into a "how can you believe God exists when science says X to the contrary?" debate. Questions are welcome, smug comments about religious stupidity are not. Sorry to be so direct, but I've had unpleasentries associated with religious works before and I really don't want to get burned here either.

Wow, your first. I like the concept, and the way the warm and cold combine. I think you've represented the unimaginable pretty well; that's probably as close as we can get to picturing the contrasts united. I guess that when people limit God to a human representation they're limiting themselves, while knowing that something beyond understanding exists releases and heightens the world. But to each their own view Sorry if I'm not making sense

...and again, that was what I was trying for.

I am a pretty devout Christian (see screen name for evidance) but aside from the Jesus-is-God part of my creed, I never really saw God as anything remotely human. This picture was done when I had the concept of God being...well, just about everything. That everything comes from God, is made by God and is loved by God. In the same veign I don't believe that evil is a force unto itself (ie, Dark Side of the force), but more like a shadow--something that can only exist in the absence of God, like a shadow can only exist in the absence of light. I believe it's a very much real thing, but that it's nowhere near as powerful as people and popular fiction give it credit.

...and that is probably WAY more than you wanted to hear. But yeah...this picture is really, really close to a part of me that I don't let out in non-Christian, non-spiritual public very much. I start talking about my God-concepts and my ideas on good and evil and get to watch people's eyes glaze over at the speed of light. So pardon the rant and thanks for the compliment.

No, really, there's nothing to pardon. Rather thank you for telling me that. There's one point where I think we differ though, cause just as light hits an object creating a shadow, I believe good and evil are complementary and can't exist without each other. I used to view evil as the absence of God some time ago, but I don't anymore because it has too much power in itself; besides, this active force of evil I'm talking about I see as rather subservient to God, because it's all woven into his creation and all accomplishing his will, the good and the evil alike. That's why I think God is the ultimate good, but that's not our concept of good, it's something beyond our good and evil. These are sometimes subtly divided anyway, and besides I believe that each has his own truth, so yeah..these are ideas that I've pulled together very slowly and rather emotionally than rationally.
It's a pity you can't talk to people about these things, after all religious choices define a person quite a lot. So yeah, here's a rant to beat yours
