A forsaken boy was found at the doors of an orphanage, run by the temple of a disappeared Demon Lord. The weakest of the weak, they raised the child to be sacrificed. Not to be martyred for the glory of their lord, but to be a stepping stone for other weaklings, all devouring and nourishing each other until at least one ate enough to have the strength needed to be useful to the Church. The priests Influenced the children, and the boy was branded with Possession: a curse that forever marked his body as a commodity of the Church to be sold to any evil spirit willing to serve their interests. As long as he would live, the boy would not rest, since the hungry spirits wouldn't either.

The priests taught the children what they believed was good and evil, and who was a hero and who was a villain, but it fell on the boy's deaf ears. Possession showed him first hand what evil was. The Church taught how to run and hide. In constant fear, the boy hid from the priests and the other children during the day, and at night, the evil spirits. When he hid, he only found salvation listening to the stories the priests taught the others, but he knew who the real heroes and villains were. One night, he got good enough at hiding to walk out of the Church in plain sight, and escape. That moment, he chose a new name: Dmitri, the name of the Foreign God that chased the Church's Lord. A hero's name.

Dmitri survived however he could, but the curse would always follow him, and so would the evil. And death came to everybody who tried to help him.
Well, except one. The man from Brookland showed him that even cursed forsaken people like them can become heroes too.

Without him, the Foreign Goddess would have never found him, and with her power, maybe he can honor the heroes that saved him.

Dmitri was one of the oldest characters I've created, but I've never really detailed his backstory until just a little while ago. This backstory that I wound up obtusely giving (I like to trickle lore out because I get carried away with it, sorry ) wound up being much darker than I originally expected, but I've always thought that his Possession ability would have to be a significant part of his life. He's not really supposed to be a dark character, but he has a pretty harsh past. I just figured that having a more hardened and driven friend to push him down the right path would be essential for someone like Moe to have. I think it's okay for your protagonist to work for their giantess fantasy story.

P.S. I used to be a huge fan of Reborn, and I definitely originally designed Dmitri's design after Belphegor from him. I didn't realize how similar they looked until I revisited the series a few weeks ago, though. It's kinda embarrassing, but I think his design has deviated a little bit over the years since I originally made him.
