I prefer more calm dragons to what you commonly see around sometimes.

I think I tried to make it more like one of those fairy dragons.
It's also much smaller than normal, if the lily-pad is sized normally.

I usually sketch things out, to start with.
Using spheres to represent joints and areas like the head and chest makes it easier to work with perspective and keep the anatomy consistent.

Coloring is probably where I put the most work in, though. Balancing colors and making the color scheme interesting really helps bring out the potential in the line art. Sometimes a layer with colored lines over the top of the line art helps add detail, too.
