Description
Ta-da! Like every year so far since me joining this site I've managed to submit a new space art right at the turn of the new year (well, locally anywayAs with my other three, I just wanted a glorified "stars and planets" scene. Didn't worry too much about originality and whtanot here since sometimes you just gotta do something for the fun of it even if it is a common subject
Happy New Year!

those odd colors of the gas giant make me think that odd alien life could thrive and evolve there.

What did you use to make this? IF YOU SAY PHOTOSHOP I WILL CUT MY LEG OFF. What FREE programs do you use?

Photoshop is one of the programs I used (mostly for the top half) Vue is the other (mostly for the main planet below) Vue does have a free version, but it comes with some pretty crippling limitations

Wow. Love that gas giant in the background. I'm looking for a multicolor gas giant to use (so would need some tutorial to make it myself, or someone happy to lend a hand). Any ideas/pointers?

Colourful gas giants, or any planet can look fake and marble-like if the colours are too rich. The key here assuming you know how to make the texture first) is that the more colours there are, the less-saturated they should be. This one has a lot of colours, but few of them are very vivid shades of their colour

This is wonderful, so are your other space works! I see this a lot in fantasy art; it would be cool if the other planets and moons were close enough for us to see like this but in real life, it wouldn't be good because it may affect the earth's gravity and make life difficult or impossible

Yeah, the gravity issue is a problem many people, even I forget about sometimes when creating these. Perhaps we are better off with just one, distant moon after all

Its just art so you can do anything I love all your space pictures
I'm just saying that the reason the other planets and moons can't be too close to earth is possibly for the reason I stated
But on other planets where there is no life, it may be possible.

Oh crap! It's just that I added one of your work in a collection and I did post a journal about the collection showing the pics in it but then I removed the journal because I thought it wasn't necessary XD Anyway, here check out the collection [link]

i would like to use some of this art as my avatar, is it possible ?[link]

Chromattix In reply to 1spacetravler2stars [2010-10-08 23:28:48 +0000 UTC]
Thanks for asking, But I don't allow that. You could for the time being modify real images of the planets or other space-photo's from NASA to get the colours/composition you want until you can draw your own Remember that avatars have to be exactly 50x50 pixels and under 15kb's in memory size though

LOVE the colors you chose. Tho what's with the blue spot on the large planet(?) in the foreground?

Chromattix In reply to Anonymonkey [2010-08-24 10:58:35 +0000 UTC]
Yes, this one's one of my most colourful...totally unrealistic, but who cares - I love colours
That blue area on the left of the nearby planet is the flat top of a huge thunderhead, such clouds grow so tall that they can go no further and thus flatten out to form an "anvil" of feathery clouds at the highest possible altitude they can go
