Description The Legendary Ladder is a renowned structure built by a race of aliens to take advantage of their close proximity to a neighbouring and tidally-locked fertile moon. The Legendary Ladder serves as a colossal elevator between both worlds complete with a stop-off station at the near-halfway point where the gravity of both worlds is in tie with each other. It is used for both practical and leisure purposes and is the central hub of huge cities at both ends

My sole entry to TheLuminarium 's 10th online exhibit and the last "themed" one to my knowledge, given the theme Legendary. As most think of the past when they think of Legends, I deliberately went the other way and thought towards the future.
Creating buildings and spaceships often feels like such a chore to me, regardless of whether I do them in 2D or 3D (much of it was 3D though) I have no idea how other space artists handle them so well so this is a little unusual for me. Was hard trying to get a good composition and angle too, even now - I had to "fake" the perspective to an almost fisheye-like view to be able to get the whole structure in view to appreciate its length, which almost disappears into a hairline on the other end

Made using Cinema 4D, Vue 7 and Photoshop, oh, I'm aware the copyright says it was made a few months earlier than the submission date...that's because it was and I had to hold it for a while.

Edit: Wooo! the first time one of my sci-fi themed deviations gets a DD, it is after all one of my favourite things to do! Thanks a lot to *hoevelkamp and ^taenaron , both quality sci-fi/space artists in themselves

That was an easy favorite. I've seen one or two examples of space ladders, but this is the first one I've seen done with so much devotion and effort applied. You've built not only a spectacular example of sci-fi art, but a facinating place that one can explore. After all, I'm curious as to who made this tower and what their united worlds are like. That's a sign of accomplishment. When you're audience is left wanting more.

I havn't seen many either, admittedly some others though are more realistic, but I've never been the one to go for full-one realism and favour a bit of a far-out approach that could still be believed by a creative mind

One can bet in order for such a huge task to be done, their nations or even neighbouring worlds would have reached a state of universal co-operation since I think this would require resources and efforts from around the planet, sadly I think if such a thing wa sbuilt on Earth today, it'll probably be treated as a big, fat "screw you" to other nations Oh well, I guess its better in art then

I... don't know how to say this.... it's just purely an Awesome Job......

The clouds looks more than real painting, the earth was just the same as what people would see from the outer-space, the spaceships are as if they really are a design from an alien race, the buildings are as real as real estates, and whoa yeah it is an Awesome Job!

that's harsh did you report him? That also happened to me I was asked to make a sketch design for our class shirt so i worked hard for it i mean very hard with extreme designs (The design looks like Oxygen) but then it turns out that it'll not be used because it's so expensive and now it's my fault I was so frustrated with that because they're putting the blame on me that it's my fault that i used so many designs that it costs a lot I just can't fight them because they are so many and I'm only one wishing someone could understand me how hard it is to make and think designs I understand their statement that don't have much money to pay the cost but blaming is a no no I was just doing my work! I wanted to cry but i cried so many times so I have to be strong and i didn't but deep inside i hate them the most.

Sorry for the long story

what is the product they advertise?
And the name of the company/industry famous to the people?
And It's good that you kept those evidences for your future use. I hope that you'll get a good lawyer. (Sure that bastard really pirated your work)

Chromattix In reply to GothPhsychoGirl [2010-05-24 08:52:43 +0000 UTC]

It was advertising a big, bi-yearly club event. And the company that runs and promotes the events really is only known in Australia and only in a few cities...but still, they make tens of thousands of dollars out of these huge parties, they could have EASILY afforded to pay me by now

GothPhsychoGirl In reply to Chromattix [2010-05-25 04:08:50 +0000 UTC]

yeah if they could earn tens of thousands of dollars why would they pirate your art without paying you?

OK then, how? But if it's not giving the finished peice until after payment - then I have learned that now

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GothPhsychoGirl In reply to Chromattix [2010-05-27 01:01:06 +0000 UTC]

Well my trick was the percent down payment thing. (Do you know that?)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to GothPhsychoGirl [2010-05-27 03:32:40 +0000 UTC]

I sthat where you ask for a certain percent of the sales from anything involving the art? if so then in some ways it's good, but people can also lie and say they havn't made much sales

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GothPhsychoGirl In reply to Chromattix [2010-05-28 14:22:10 +0000 UTC]

No what I mean was for example they asked you to make certain product and they asked you how much is that product costs so you give 500AUD but before you work on that project you'll be asking a down payment of 50% so it's 250AUD if they accepted to pay the 50% then work on it because the truth is 250AUD is the original price of the product and the other half was just an interest and if they were able to take the prod w/o paying the other half then it's ok because they paid for the original price.(That system of what malls do here I just don't know for the other countries) And be aware of the deadline of submission. I hope this helps

The space elevator of ΠšΠΎΠ½ΡΡ‚Π°Π½Ρ‚ΠΈΜΠ½ Циолко́вский (hey, I fnally figured out hot to use the cyrillic option) is one of my favourite concepts in space exploration and science fiction.

This is by far the most beautiful rendering I have ever seen.

Chromattix In reply to FirstSarge [2010-05-21 14:26:17 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's an amazing concept, there's still lots of potential problems that technology needs to overcome today, but a real one would be a breathtaking sight

The moon looks a bit unauthentic to me, the space ships simple, could have more polycounts

the earth do not rlly fit into it would look better without or maybe smaller so there is a bigger feeling of distance.

i think u chosed the right cathegoria. coz i see more postwork than 3D. so right choise.
the modeling isnt that great but u have nice matte painting skills.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to MaxPeterson [2010-05-21 14:01:37 +0000 UTC]

There's only so much polygons I can give to objects on my computer before everything starts going ridiculously slow, so a lot of my models are low-poly and I just edit them back to quality in Photoshop. I've had significantly more practice in digital painting than 3D. I can't really afford proffessional training in 3D like I would like to have but I suppose 2D art is a little more suited for me anyway, sometimes 3D programs limit me with certain special effects that require tedious settings and long render times where I'd just save myself a lot of time just drawing them

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MaxPeterson In reply to Chromattix [2010-05-21 15:27:15 +0000 UTC]

yea man i mean u should start getting better PC then!
u can do awesome stuff with 3d progs srsly.

i mean by that success u seem to have with your art u should collect some moeny to buy better engine.. thats teh point... actually i like traditional painting more because no limits.

thats the problem with PC-involved "art"
though c4d is easy prog to learn.. but i heard vue loves to crash in important moments so i heard u need much patience for vue, or?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to MaxPeterson [2010-05-21 15:32:37 +0000 UTC]

All correct, C4D is the most user-friendly program (that isn't crap ) seems 99% of studios only want 3D studio Max or Maya users, and I have no experience in those, and only medium-level experience in Cinema 4D so I don't think 3D seems to be the way for me to go right now, but I do like using it for certain things, but rarely can I do a "pure 3D scene" that looks perfect right after render

Yeah, Vue is otherwise good at handling huge polygons counts, rendering infitely-detailed terrains and effects like volumetric clouds, but at the cost of stability - it does crash a lot unless you have a real beast of a computer

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MaxPeterson In reply to Chromattix [2010-05-21 17:21:36 +0000 UTC]

yea teh anger seems to be very huge with vue heard a lot
c4d is such an easy programm for beginners and professionals. but i ahve seen no real professional who made an organic render (i count aging processes to organic, like rotten wood or old houses, old beton, leaking n stuff) that looks awesome without postwork. i wish i could paint digital as good as u. actually traditional painting is more easy to me, but how to handle with grafic tablett? u have some tips to beginn with?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to MaxPeterson [2010-05-22 01:08:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I see very few organic things done in C4D, I can make tree's and plants in it, but only when I need a certain shape or tree type that can't be done in Vue's plant editor but it takes hours I certainly couldn't model characters, animals, aliens etc in it and few others can either, I guess it's best for architecture and vehicular designs - which aren't my area of interest anyway

I got my tablet in late 2008 so I spent many years with the mouse beforehand. The tablet was pretty quick to learn, just a week of practicing and I got started on my first proper peice with it. But it does feel different than traditional art, but still way closer to traditional than drawing by mouse but admittedly - if one is no good at handling a pen or paintbrush for traditional art they likely won't be that successful with the tablet pen either

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MaxPeterson In reply to Chromattix [2010-05-22 10:31:27 +0000 UTC]

yea there u r right dude, i mean traditional art is still the direct art, from mind to paper. guess thats the biggest difference to digital art, muc more expressen, not so much planing n stuff, and less frustration if OC jumps out of the window or hang up itself. I guess practicing is the onliest way to get started.

actually organic modeling is suicide for the most home computers char modeling n stuff.
