Description The Legendary Ladder is a renowned structure built by a race of aliens to take advantage of their close proximity to a neighbouring and tidally-locked fertile moon. The Legendary Ladder serves as a colossal elevator between both worlds complete with a stop-off station at the near-halfway point where the gravity of both worlds is in tie with each other. It is used for both practical and leisure purposes and is the central hub of huge cities at both ends

My sole entry to TheLuminarium 's 10th online exhibit and the last "themed" one to my knowledge, given the theme Legendary. As most think of the past when they think of Legends, I deliberately went the other way and thought towards the future.
Creating buildings and spaceships often feels like such a chore to me, regardless of whether I do them in 2D or 3D (much of it was 3D though) I have no idea how other space artists handle them so well so this is a little unusual for me. Was hard trying to get a good composition and angle too, even now - I had to "fake" the perspective to an almost fisheye-like view to be able to get the whole structure in view to appreciate its length, which almost disappears into a hairline on the other end

Made using Cinema 4D, Vue 7 and Photoshop, oh, I'm aware the copyright says it was made a few months earlier than the submission date...that's because it was and I had to hold it for a while.

Edit: Wooo! the first time one of my sci-fi themed deviations gets a DD, it is after all one of my favourite things to do! Thanks a lot to *hoevelkamp and ^taenaron , both quality sci-fi/space artists in themselves

I guess space art eventually stems two kinds of artist - the type that eventually turns into a machine/city oriented artist, and the kind that simply sticks to the natural aspects of sci-fi - which I find more visually interesting anyway, enviable as some of those pros at spaceships and cities may be at times

But man, don't get me started on the stuff that fortunately never made it to dA on my end either

Awesome concept! I like the idea of a station being in the middle.

Ohhh maaan! I fucking love this one! Exceptional job on the realism, but the colors still pop out at you. The "ladder" reminds me of Kame's lookout in Dragonball haha! This is fucking brilliant man. So much to look at.

With colours, I'm now just mainly not keen on the purpleness of the top planet in the shadows, otherwise it could be considered pretty real colour-wise. Even real life isn't always on the brink of being totally desaturated

Lol, I totally forgot about that, and to think my brother and I only yesterday were talking about our good o'l Dragon Ball Z days too!

Lol, those base jumpers can go pretty far off buildings we have now - I think they'd get more fall than they would from a plane if they jumped off even the lower parts of this

Ah, I love this. You're archetectual skills are just as amazing as your cosmic ones.
I love how the dust clouds role over the city and how the towers shoot up. Very realistic scifi! Love it.

Chromattix In reply to MasterRollipolly [2010-05-18 02:09:42 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, well the architecture might be good but it was painfully slow and tedious to do - don't have enough skill in that yet to do it as efficiently as the space areas which I've been doing for years

Glad you liked it (though those are just normal clouds )

That is so cool, at first it reminded me of the dark towers from Stephen King.

It's really amazing, I love the details you put in there including the lighting. I like how you put Earth at the top showing the details, for some reason I just love that part.

damn dude this shit kicks asses!!!!!! it is amazingly cool, but i wonder how the two planets rotation works in here, maybe they always stand still face to face to each other, but rotate around a gravity center betten them, (the center of the tower) almost like pluto and charon XD good work dude

Holy cow, what a cool concept!!! And don't worry about your spaceships, they are totally awesome! They kind of have a Star Wars feel to them, which is totally cool with me because I love Star Wars. I also love the main building at the base of the
"ladder," it's really awesome looking. And I'm so glad to see another one of your amazing works! I love your style, man, please continue to please my eyeballs! LOL!!

I will continue indeed, I have another coming up soon, so don't wash those eyeballs yet, unless you saw something horrible between now and then, then do so

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to Lina-Trinch [2010-05-18 01:37:59 +0000 UTC]

Well - it was the reason for the first few weeks of inactivity at leats, the rest was just dead motivation

Yeah, planets this close boggle the mind, both would have to be rotating quite fast to stay in orbit, a day on each could possibly be only half the length of ours

Lina-Trinch In reply to Chromattix [2010-05-18 02:10:14 +0000 UTC]

Wow, I'd be seasick all the time lol.

I've been having zero motivation myself. I told my friends to make a 100 art challenge for me, though. It's working awesomely (& I get to try new stuff). Hope you get out of the slump if you aren't already.

Chromattix In reply to Lina-Trinch [2010-05-18 02:14:55 +0000 UTC]

I've considered that 100 themes challenge at times, but I can't even stick to my own mini-series of stuff for very long, so the 100 themes challenge could take me years! not sure if it's worth it

Lina-Trinch In reply to Chromattix [2010-05-18 02:21:24 +0000 UTC]

I have to wonder, do you enjoy making the skies/gases in the planets or showing the surfaces, such as this heavily detailed city? Or something else?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Chromattix In reply to EqualToYou [2010-05-18 01:08:55 +0000 UTC]

The sky was my first interest in the natural world as a kid, even before I knew what was beyond it other than just stars and the moon I indeed like doing that part the most, but a clouds-only scene would look pretty boring, it's the inclusion of everything else that lets you appreciate it all
