Description
The classic apple tree, an iconic symbol of fertility, prosperity and in some cases - even the earliest days of man. Here in a controlled keepsafe to give it optimum conditions. But one has to wonder, is this the first tree that ever existed, synthesized by another species? Or is it humanity desperately trying to save one of the last? This is my first of three submissions to the latest exhibit for the Luminarium's latest Gaia theme. Which I also proudly made it as the featured artist for the exhibit too and got interviewed, which can be seen here [link]
Created using Cinema 4D, Vue and Photoshop. I ran into a lot of issues with this one, being my last "complex" scene done entirely on my old computer. I owe a thanks to ~Kaioshen who rendered the Vue file for me since I would have been waiting days if I left it to my old system.
Other artworks will be uploaded in the coming days. I just don't believe in dumping a bunch of work at one. Let people digest one apple before feeding them the next

Stunning. I love the warping and reflection effects on the glass dome. And of course, the tree looks so real and vibrant I feel like I could pluck an apple through my computer screen.
As always, i'm in awe of your skills. Excellent work.

Thanks for noticing the reflection distortion too. That's an effect always fun to tinker with in 3D

for some reason, it might be the vividness of the colours, this made me think of a scene from Charlie and the Chocolate factory.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was very...unusual compared to its predecessor. But that candy landscape at the start of the tour looks way more vibrant and appetizing And the chocolate river actually looked like chocolate rather than the septic contents too

I actually don't know. Probably the fact I also thought about having landscapes or trees in jars just for a fun image. But since was meant to be more high-end I dedicated that "jar" could be a complex machine
Of course, I might one day do something in a jar or bottle too since that would look cool

Greetings Matthew,
Superlative image and indeed very iconic . . . Perhaps it might be part of an extra- stellar or extra-galactic "space ark" collection which includes flora as well as fauna.
Best regards,
Michael C. Turner

brilliant ^_^ looks like a bountiful harvest of almost glowing apples.
I'm wondering how large is the tree? maybe it's a micro environment, with little micro rabbits living under it's roots.

Chromattix In reply to Lee99 [2012-06-19 03:07:55 +0000 UTC]
Lol,l I might have gone a bit overboard with the apples It wouldn't surprise me if future trees where engineered to be even more productive, the fruits and vegetables we all eat now are already significantly bigger, tastier and more productive than the naturally-occuring ancestors of the same plants
Of course, there's always debates about selective breeding and genetic engineering, but I say - if the food isn't dangerous, then who cares, there's worse things we can eat than genetically-enhanced fruits
I couldn't decide whether I wanted it to look micro-sized or real-sized. So I left that up for interpretation It does look "small" to me, but some have commented as if it's a huge machine with a full-sized tree, and that's fine too

Lee99 In reply to Chromattix [2012-06-19 09:29:23 +0000 UTC]
Allot of people don't even know that fruit and veges we eat have been altered,
which I find humorous considering so many people against GE foods eat them completely unawares.
I like to leave it up to viewers to interpret my works as well, "imagination" is what I want people to use more often.

I had a more hopeful thought when I saw this:
Maybe it was humanity finally achieving the power to create that we've always wanted, and we're setting up something new so another species can have the same experience all over again. Some rough spots, but they, like us, would find out it's all worth it.

That sounds more optimistic, then again, this one can be considered optimistic too depending on which story people choose for it
Creating a new planet with new species would be the most amazing task ever, it's almost like being God I'd have a blast pitching in ideas for new species and environments
