Description
The classic apple tree, an iconic symbol of fertility, prosperity and in some cases - even the earliest days of man. Here in a controlled keepsafe to give it optimum conditions. But one has to wonder, is this the first tree that ever existed, synthesized by another species? Or is it humanity desperately trying to save one of the last? This is my first of three submissions to the latest exhibit for the Luminarium's latest Gaia theme. Which I also proudly made it as the featured artist for the exhibit too and got interviewed, which can be seen here [link]
Created using Cinema 4D, Vue and Photoshop. I ran into a lot of issues with this one, being my last "complex" scene done entirely on my old computer. I owe a thanks to ~Kaioshen who rendered the Vue file for me since I would have been waiting days if I left it to my old system.
Other artworks will be uploaded in the coming days. I just don't believe in dumping a bunch of work at one. Let people digest one apple before feeding them the next

I found this was on the front page before I noticed it was in my inbox. I like the sense of detail in this, along with the mystery behind it. I do have to wonder, if we went deeper into that subject, about whether this tree is one of the last being preserved, or if it was that tree... .
This, in one word, is amazing.

That explains why I got a good response on this one so far, I have seen the same thing with artists I watch too, it makes me feel special in a way knowing I was amazed by something before I even knew it was in my inbox
Yes that's exactly the mood I wanted. It could be the first or the last, I'll let the viewer decide

It is just my luck that most every time I see your artwork, it is on the front page before I notice in anywhere else (...or maybe the result of your art's popularity).
I also began to think that, even though you did not say, maybe the tree was genetically created. ...but that is my assumption.

Thanks for the invite But I prefer to keep groups I participate in to a minimum, makes it a lot easier for me to keep on top of everything
You can always add stuff to the groups favourites if you like though. Good luck with the group

Dang dude, this is superbly amazing. What's pretty different about this is almost in the way of how there seems to be a bit of a contrast with styles going on, between what's happening inside of the bubble and outside of it. Both have incredible detailing, but it kind of surprises me that so far I'm the only one who seems to see a bit of a difference between styles going on. Love the lighting and reflections in this one, not to mention the concept is enriched with intrigue.
Keep it up!

Even I didn't really notice that I guess it wasn't intentional, just the result of how I do some things compared to others (a tree is very different to a lab room after all
) But yeah, I can see how you noticed that, and that's an interesting observation

I tend to ramble a lot so it might be a bit long. But I love it when artists spill all the beans, so if you're like me you might still find it interesting

It's a great scene, but it lacks the sense of scale. It kind of looks miniturized actually. Like if an apple tree had been shrunk down to the size of a bonzai tree.
But it is very pretty nontheless

Chromattix In reply to jLundhArt [2012-06-18 10:10:18 +0000 UTC]
I was actually wanting it to look shrunk I had no idea whether I wanted it to look really big or really small, I figured it might seem more insignificant yet valuable if it seemed smaller
But the scale is up for interpretation really - if it looks real-size to some then I'm find with that too

jLundhArt In reply to Chromattix [2012-06-18 14:16:38 +0000 UTC]
You don't make that kind of setup for something that isn't valuable
I think it's the perspective that makes it look shrunk to me. It's viewed from slightly above middle on, and you rarely see an apple tree from that point of view. Unless you're above it or it's really small.

Very nice. Could you tell a little about the models? Did you make the tree yourself? It is very well made.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Chromattix In reply to Oskar-A [2012-06-18 09:30:42 +0000 UTC]
Yep. All models (ironically except the tree) were created from scratch by me. It was a tedious process as machines and technology isn't normally my thing, but the fact some 3D models can be duplicated and rotated did help save time in some areas. The tree is a Vue-created tree that I later modified to better suit my needs. So ironically - the tree, which is the main feature of the work - was the easier and quickest bit to do

This is amazing. But you know what would make it look even more realistic and "alive?" Condensation/fogging inside the glass. I'm not sure if that would be easily doable or a pain in the ass, but some representation of moisture would definitely make the little biome look more real.

Chromattix In reply to MaewynShadowtail [2012-06-18 09:28:08 +0000 UTC]
At the time I didn't even consider that. Then again, in real life there would be enough ventilation of air being passed through to prevent that, since without it, the tree would die
